Paul Pogba can be “one of the best players” in the Premier League this season by adding more goals and leadership to his game at Manchester United, says Quinton Fortune.
Big things were expected of the Frenchman following his return to Old Trafford last summer in an £89 million deal.
Pobga 7/2 to score in Super Cup
He was able to help United to three trophies, but the general consensus is that there is more to come from the midfielder.
Fortune believes that potential will be unlocked in 2017-18, with Pogba capable of inspiring a title bid from Jose Mourinho’s men.
The former Red Devils star told the club’s official website: "Pogba has been fantastic now he's had a pre-season under his belt.
Chinese company denies Man Utd approach
"Pogba stands out for me but it's a team performance.
"Of course he can be one of the best players in the league this season. I am sure this is one of his own objectives and goals he has set himself. I'm just happy he's settled now and has had a season back here, plus pre-season, which is very important.
"Paul looks very strong and very calm. He is not trying to prove to the whole world his ability as we've known that now for some time. This season, hopefully he'll score loads of goals and it's about him taking that leadership role.
"The manager has made him his captain a few times and it's good for him. He has got to take responsibility and I am sure he relishes that. He has got to help the side as the most important objective is for the team.
"I hope the team agree that objective is to win the Premier League. We have definitely got the team to do that."
Rooney: CR7 would break my record!
United could only muster a sixth-place finish in 2016-17, with much of their attention focused on cup competition – as they tasted Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League success.
They are expected to mount a serious challenge for Premier League supremacy this season, though, with Mourinho boasting a proven record when it comes to delivering title glory in his second year in any particular post.
The Red Devils will go in search of another trophy on Tuesday when they face Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup, before opening their domestic campaign at home to West Ham on Sunday.
