Sunday's Manchester derby ended in chaotic fashion after a flare was thrown from the Old Trafford stands close to Manchester City's Bernardo Silva.

City continued their incredible winning run at the expense of their rivals with a 2-1 victory in the weekend's top-of-the-table clash.

Tensions were high in the combative derby, and finally spilled over with the match coming to a close.

In the fourth minute of injury time, a red flare appeared on the pitch as City were taking a late corner.

The incendiary device landed some two feet from Bernardo Silva as he prepared to launch his cross.

United's Juan Mata intervened by removing the flare, and play continued in normal fashion until full time was blown.

The use of flares, smoke bombs and other pyrotechnics is forbidden by the FA, with clubs liable to be charged for failing to control fans if such devices appear in the stadium.
