It was a fine day for the blue half of Manchester on Sunday as City opened up an historic gap against local rivals United.

Premier League leaders City extended their advantage over the Red Devils to eight points after dispatching Arsenal 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

United had the chance to reduce that deficit shortly afterwards, but the Red Devils came up short against Chelsea and left Stamford Bridge empty-handed after a 1-0 defeat.

That eight-point lead is now the largest ever enjoyed by a team leading the Premier League table after 11 games of the season.

Having kept touch with City during the early weeks of the campaign, United have seen the gap widen in recent weeks.

And there is no doubt that, unlike their goal-happy rivals, a lack of potency in front of goal is hurting Jose Mourinho's men, especially away from home.

After recording 20 shots on target and scoring seven goals in their first three away league games this season, the Red Devils have managed just six shots on target in their last three, scoring once.
