Liverpool have drawn inspiration from the past for their 2017-18 New Balance home kit in celebration of the club's 125th anniversary.
A commemorative crest featuring a Liverbird emblem, flanked by ‘1892’ and ‘2017,’ is embroidered onto the breast of the shirt, which is a darker ‘Shankly red’
Guardiola and Mourinho have more in common than ever
As an ode to the teams of the 80s, with particular reference to the top worn as winners of the European Cup in Rome, it incorporates tonal pin stripes and is framed with a white v-neck collar.
The emblem in tribute to the 96 fans who tragically lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster sits at the nape of the neck.
There are ‘125’ markings on the shoulder seam tape and the kit is completed by red shorts and red socks with a white loop trim.
“There is a huge sense of pride that comes with wearing an LFC shirt and it is always an honour, but this kit is special,” said Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.
“Our 125th anniversary is a great moment for us all to celebrate our heritage and this kit really reflects that, especially as it features the anniversary crest - we’ll wear it with pride.”
The goalkeeper strip, meanwhile, has a rich green design with a tonal three-colour sleeve pattern.
General Manager of New Balance Football, Richard Wright said: “This kit is a testament to the periods and events that have made Liverpool FC the club it is today. This year’s home kit is the perfect blend of heritage and modern technology, creating a look that is visually stunning and performs at the highest level.”
James can still save his Real Madrid career
The reveal was led visually, with a film showcasing four fans - Charlie Gallagher, Max Dutton, Robbie Fowler and Andrew Ward, who embody what it is to be ‘Pure Liverpool FC.’
They were visited by one of their heroes with Ian St John, Philippe Coutinho, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson each handing over a new shirt.
The kit will be available for pre-order in store and online from 9am Thursday 27th April and will be available to purchase from 19th May.
