Two teams that know each other well will meet in the Liga MX semifinals after Club America and Necaxa got results Sunday to move into the Liga MX semifinals.
Though Necaxa has since moved to Aguascalientes and only returned to the top division in the summer after winning promotion, the teams shared the Estadio Azteca during the late '60s, then again in the '80s and '90s before Los Rayos made the move out of the capital.
Necaxa sat in deep and kept reigning champion Pachuca from scoring in the second leg of their quarterfinal tie to win 2-1 on aggregate after Sunday's scoreless draw.
Earlier Sunday, an Oribe Peralta header sent America to a 1-0 victory over rival Chivas in the Clasico Nacional. Combined with a 1-1 draw in the first leg, America went through 2-1 on aggregate.
The other semifinal will feature the winners of Saturday's matches. Tigres thumped Pumas by a 5-0 margin to lock up a 7-2 aggregate win and will host the second leg of the semifinal against Leon. Javier Torrente's men came back from 3-0 down to lose 3-2, but go through thanks to a 3-0 win over Tijuana in the first leg.
Kickoff times for the contests will be announced by the league Monday.
