Bengaluru FC had to face FC Pune City in the playoffs. Over at Pune, it ended as a goalless stalemate but led by skipper Sunil Chhetri's hat-trick in the return leg, the Albert Roca-coached side emerged 3-1 winners to become the first team to book a place in the final.
On the other hand, Chennaiyin FC went into their semi-final second leg at home with an away goal advantage after having drawn over at FC Goa 1-1. Jeje Lalpekhlua scored a brace and Dhanapal Ganesh too added his name to the scoresheet to record a 4-1 victory on aggregate.
It will be the first time in the competition's four editions that the two teams who finished first and second on the league table will come face to face in the summit clash. Chennaiyin will have a chance to win their second ISL trophy after winning the 2015 edition.
The Abhishek Bachchan co-owned side could equal record two-time champions ATK on the honour board. Bengaluru FC in their very first season of the ISL will have an opportunity to script history on their home ground.
