AFC Cup PREVIEW: Bengaluru FC vs Mohun Bagan
The Sports Authority Of India Eastern Zone (SAI) had pointed out that Subhankar Adhikary, who had been listed as an 18-year-old by the Mariners, is actually a year older. Henceforth, the West Bengal born defender is ineligible to play in the particular age group.
Adhikary, who made two appearances for the Green and Maroon colts during the zonal round of the competition has been a part of the Mohun Bagan academy since 2015.
Speaking to Goal, I-League CEO Sunando Dhar narrated, "We got a complaint from SAI Calcutta that one of the players of Mohun Bagan was overage and they had documentary proof which they submitted. We had asked that player to come to New Delhi for medical tests and he didn't show up"
"There were two other dates given to him and he didn't come. Then the Supreme Committee and Disciplinary Committee showcasued Mohun Bagan. We did not get a reply. The player was never sent to us to be medically tested. Mohun Bagan have been suspended for this season in the U-18 I-League", he said.
Mohun Bagan U-18, run by the famed Mohun Bagan SAIL Football Academy topped the Kolkata Zone during the zonal phase with 23 points with arch-rivals East Bengal finishing as runners-up. The top two teams then advance onto the final round consisting of 12 teams across the nation.

Dhar also confirmed that United SC, who finished third on the table will now replace Mohun Bagan in the final round.
Mohun Bagan finance secretary Debasish Dutta was incognizant of the recent developments when Goal contacted him. He said, "I have heard the news but I exactly do not know of what has happened. I do not oversee the operations of the junior team. The people who do will be better suited to give answers regarding the same."
