Indian Super League: Delhi Dynamos set to appoint Miguel Angel Portugal as head coach image

Indian Super League (ISL) outfit are set to appoint former coach of Spanish side Racing Santander, Miguel Angel Portugal, as their head coach for the upcoming season, Goal can confirm.  

Miguel Portugal will take over the reins of the club from legendary Italian Gianluca Zambrotta who managed to lead the club to the semifinals last season where they lost out to Kerala Blasters. 

When contacted by Goal, Miguel Portugal said, "Yes, I'm in contact with Delhi Dynamos. I will be signing the contract in the next 2-3 days."

The 61-year-old has extensive experience in Spain, having managed the likes of Real Madrid Castilla, Cordoba and Racing Santander during his managerial career. He has also managed in Bolivia (Club Bolivar) and Brazil (Atletico Paranaense). 

Miguel Angel Portugal

A former La Liga winner (1980) with Real Madrid, Portugal has served as the Technical Director of the Los Blancos and was very close to succeeding Bernd Schuster in the Bernabeu hotseat but in the end Juande Ramos was appointed. 

Portugal is considered a connoisseur of football in Spain and has even authored a book on ball training called Futbol - Medios de Entrenamiento Con Balon.

Delhi Dynamos will be hoping he will bring several special methods right out of his book to help the team land the ultimate honour this season.
