F Lalnunzira made the trip all the way to Lunglei airport on Monday afternoon to receive the victorious team arriving home after their 1-1 draw at Shillong Lajong. He was part of the convoy that escorted the team through the streets of Aizawl and ultimately reaching the Assam Rifles Ground, where the gala felicitation ceremony was held.
Midway through the event, Lalnuzira, sat on the edge of the stand fell to the ground between the fencing and the boundary wall. He was immediately rushed to the Aizawl Civil Hospital but multiple internal injuries saw him breathe his last at 10:30 AM on Wednesday morning.
A resident of the Kolasib district of Mizoram, Lalnunzira's accident occurred when the fans were singing Aizawl FC chants in unison, led by senior Mizo artist HC Sanglura, who is incidentally winger Brandon Vanlalremdika's father.
This is the first time a dark incident such as this has emerged from the quaint little setting of hilly Mizoram. Aizawl FC, on the other hand, have had elevated publicity all throughout the world after their statement to resort to fast unto death if not included in the new merged league has had the world media talking in the last 24 hours.
