Two years after his stint at Indian Super League (ISL) side Kerala Blasters came to an end, Antonio German is still a crowd-favourite footballer in Kerala.

When the 26-year-old English striker tweeted about his impending return to the state that adores him, fans started making guesses. It could only be either Kerala Blasters or the I-League side Gokulam Kerala. The latter are a team quickly gaining support from all over the country for their heroic displays in a debut season that saw them finish seventh in the league and lose out to ISL finalists Bengaluru FC in the Round-of-16 of Super Cup.

And when he finally announced his next destination as Gokulam Kerala, it was because he really wanted to be back in familiar territory.

"I am excited about the new challenge. I missed India a lot. I am happy to be back. Hopefully, I can help the new team," said Antonio German exclusively to Goal

Ever since leaving Kerala Blasters, German has maintained that he is an ardent supporter of the ISL club even after announcing his move. And he did not forget to re-iterate his affection for the Yellow Army.

"It was difficult (to choose a club other than Kerala Blasters) but you know I am just happy to be back here in India."

"They (Gokulam Kerala) want to push for the title. The fact that they are in Kerala is what convinced me because I have been there. It is a good step forward," believes the former QPR forward.

German joined Blasters in 2015 and in two seasons consisting of 23 appearances, he notched six goals and five assists. His ability to score and assist will be vital for the Malabarians who seem to have found a good replacement for Henry Kisekka.

"I am just going to put my head down, work hard and score goals. I want to be the top goalscorer in the league," German said, while also touching upon the massive support he has so far received on social media.

"The fans are the best I have ever come across. Even though I have moved to Gokulam, they have my back. I hope they watch the games as well."
