The Flying V may be making its way to the streaming world.
A reboot of "The Mighty Ducks" 1990s Disney film trilogy is in development at Disney+, according to a report Wednesday by Discussing Film.
The Hollywood Reporter reported in January 2018 that a reboot of the series was in the works at ABC Signature Studios, but it appears the updated version of the family-friendly hockey movies will air on Disney's new streaming service as a series rather than as standalone movies.
Discussing Film reported that the series' storyline will focus on a 13-year-old boy who starts his own hockey team after he is cut from the Mighty Ducks. This would be a diversion from the plot of the original 1992 film, in which lawyer Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) winds up coaching a youth hockey team after being sentenced to community service for drunken driving.
The NHL awarded the Walt Disney Company an expansion franchise that began play in 1993 in Anaheim, Calif. Disney named the club The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim as a tie-in to the first movie. The franchise's original logo and uniforms were used in conjunction with the fictional team in the movie series until new ownership changed the team's name to the Anaheim Ducks ahead of the 2006-07 season. The franchise currently uses the original logo and color scheme in its alternate uniforms.
Production on the streaming series is reportedly set to begin in Vancouver, B.C., in February 2020. Disney has not yet made an announcement about the reboot.
