The third and final leg of the Triple Crown will commence this weekend, as the 156th edition of the Belmont Stakes will take place at Saratoga Race Course for the first time in history.
Belmont Park, the typical location for the Belmont Stakes, is currently undergoing renovations and will reopen in 2026. Saratoga Race Course was founded in 1863, making it one of the oldest and most historic racetracks in the United States.
Mystik Dan, the Kentucky Derby winner, drew the No. 3 post, while Preakness Stakes winner Seize the Grey is in the No. 1 post. This is the first time since 2013 that the Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness Stakes winner will both race in the Belmont Stakes.
This year's Belmont Stakes will last 1 1/4 miles, which is shorter than the typical distance of 1 1/2 miles because of the shape of the track at Saratoga Race Course. The total purse for the 2024 Belmont Stakes is $2 million.
