Someone will break the bank at the Wells Fargo Championship this weekend.

As one of the PGA Tour's designated events, there's a lot of money at stake for the field teeing off at Quail Hollow. There's a $20 million purse on the line, with the winner cashing in a massive $3.6 million check.

A few of the Tour's heavy hitters, though, won't be driving for the dough. Jon Rahm, who won the 2023 Masters and played in the RBC Heritage and the Mexico Open, opted not to play in this weekend's event, one of only two that PGA Tour members are allowed to miss without taking a fine.

Scottie Scheffler is also sitting this one out. Scheffler finished 10th at the 2023 Masters and 11th at the RBC Heritage, and this marks the first of his two allowed designated events that he'll miss on the 2023 calendar.

One golfer making his return after a dreadful Masters tournament is Rory McIlroy. The golfer admitted to not being in the right headspace following his missed cut at the Masters, but he's planning to tee it off this week — and not cost himself anymore money in the process.
