Scottie Scheffler, the 2024 Masters champion, enters as the overwhelming favorite to win yet another PGA Tour event. But the 156-golfer field includes a notably strong cast of contenders.
Xander Schauffele (winner) and Bryson DeChambeau (runner-up) each played remarkably well at last month's PGA Championship. Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa and even Tiger Woods — returning to the U.S. Open for the first time since 2020 — are other golfers to watch at "The Cradle of American Golf."
One big name that you won't see on the leaderboard: Jon Rahm. The Spaniard dropped out of the event because of a lingering foot injury, saying that it is "best for my long-term health" to withdraw.
