Tiger Woods has been posted at 40/1 odds by the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook to win this week’s Safeway Open in Napa, Calif., Woods’ first tournament in about 14 months.
Odds of 40/1 theoretically translate to Woods having a 2.44 percent chance of winning the PGA Tour event.

Bookmakers, though, typically put a shorter price on Woods than his true odds dictate. That’s because they anticipate lots of people betting on Woods.
Woods’ true price, based on his odds to make the cut and the over/under on his first-round score, are about 80/1, Jeff Sherman, who makes the golf odds at the Westgate, told Omnisport in a text message.
Sherman opened Paul Casey and Matt Kuchar as the co-favorites in Napa, each listed at 12/1 odds. Phil Mickelson, who will reportedly be paired with Woods in the first two rounds, is the third betting choice, at 15/1.
The Westgate has also posted a suite of prop bets around Woods’ return. In the list below, for the uninitiated, when there’s a minus before a number, that side of the bet is the favorite (more likely to happen); a plus sign indicates that side of the bet is the underdog (less likely to happen). For example, Woods is a slight favorite to make the cut, but an underdog to finish in the top 20.
