Tiger Woods' score: Complete Round 2 results, highlights from 2024 U.S. Open image

Tiger Woods' trek towards U.S. Open glory came to a close on Friday.

The 15-time major champion fell short of reaching the vaunted cut line, posting a 3-over-par 73 in Round 2. That brought his total to +7 over the opening two rounds of the tournament.

Woods started the day with a flourish, recording pars on each of the first three holes. He appeared on the cusp of breaking through and recording a minuscule number when he notched his first birdie of the day, a sumptuous effort on No. 4.

But the well would soon dry for the 48-year-old, who began to rack up bogies as the day wore on.

Perhaps it was the lack of reps over the past year or a gradual atrophy of his once-boundless physical capabilities. Regardless, errors began to seep into his play. And once they started, they were hard to arrest.

The Sporting News tracked live updates from the 2024 U.S. Open. Below are the highlights and live results of Woods' futile attempt to bring his score down and secure the golden ticket that is qualification into Rounds 3 and 4.

Tiger Woods results, highlights from Round 2 at 2024 U.S. Open

(All times Eastern)

Hole 18, Par 4

Woods pars on his final hole, ending his trip at Pinehurst with a +7 across the first two rounds. He will not make it past the cut line.

Hole 17, Par 4

Shot 3: Woods sinks his effort to maintain his +7 score.

Shot 2: Aggressive play from Woods proves helpful. He gets himself back on the green and gives himself a shot at earning par.

Shot 1: Not the greatest hit from Woods. He has a mountain to climb here.

Hole 16, Par 4

Shot 5: Tap in for bogey. That could be it for Woods.

Shot 4: Woods needed that one. His effort falls just ever-so-slightly wide.

Shot 3: Looked for a moment like Woods had set himself up for a chance at birdie. However, his attempt strolled a little wide, eventually settling outside the green.

Shot 2: Another errant effort puts Woods in trouble.

Shot 1: Into the dirt Woods goes.

Hole 15, Par 3

Shot 3: Woods taps in for par.

Shot 2: So close for Woods! Another effort left wanting, looked like he did everything he needed to for the birdie. However, the ball spun in and out.

Shot 1: Woods sparkles with his tee shot, catapulting it onto the green. It will take some effort for Woods to get a 2 out of this. But if he could, it could go a long way in helping him make it inside the cut line.

Hole 14, Par 4

Shot 4: Tap in for par. Woods' hopes of cutting down on his score are slipping away.

Shot 3: Decent putt for Woods. However, he sees his attempt tail slightly wide. Another par tap is on the horizon.

Shot 2: After seeing his first attempt drop into the sand, Woods strokes his effort on the green. He'll have an outside chance at notching the birdie he so desperately needs.

Shot 1: Woods takes aim and fires on his tee shot. It lands in the bunker, unfortunately.

Hole 13, Par 4

Shot 4: Woods settles for par. Still at +6.

Shot 3: Just misses his birdie attempt, the putt looked smooth but it curled too wide.

Shot 2: One of Woods' best shots of the day! Used his pitching wedge with aplomb as he drops his effort right near the flagpole.

Shot 1: Puts his shot firmly on the fairway once more.

Hole 12, Par 4

Woods falls short on another par putt. Didn't put enough strength into it. He'll drop to six-over after tapping in for bogey.

Hole 11, Par 4

Woods saves par once more. A solid, if unspectacular day for the 15-time major winner.

Hole 10, Par 5

Woods rattles in a short-range putt to save par. Wasn't able to get enough on his fourth strike to knock in the birdie.

Hole 9, Par 3

Woods forced to take a bogey after seeing his first attempt at the hole bounce well wide of the green.

Hole 8, Par 4

Shot 4: Woods sinks his putt to retain his place at +4.

Shot 3: Impressive chip to bring Woods on the cusp of another par.

Shot 2: Put himself in a challenging position after seeing his effort bounce into the gallery that surrounds the green.

Shot 1: Woods once again returns to the fairway.

Hole 7, Par 4

Shot 4: Woods taps in for bogey.

Hole 6, Par 3

Shot 3: Woods saves par on No. 6. He just keeps whittling away.

Shot 1: Really decent hit for Woods off the tee. Could bring that score right back down with another birdie here.

Hole 5, Par 5

Shot 6: Woods taps in for bogey.

Shot 5: Woods mishits his effort, falling short of the target.

Shot 4: Woods seemingly sets himself up for a manageable par putt, sending the ball quite a bit deep with his putter.

Shot 3: Woods' shot goes a little wide of the mark, hitting the green but placing quite high on the turf. It's either going to be a lengthy putt or a chip needed for Woods to record a birdie.

Shot 2: Woods returns to the grass with his second shot.

Shot 1: Woods just misses his first strike, sending it into the rough. However, he's right next to the green and has four shots to work with to get himself back on track.

Hole 4, Par 4

Shot 3: Woods knocks in the putt to record his first birdie of the day!

Hole 3, Par 4

Shot 4: Woods saves par once more. Three pars to start the day. Not too shabby for the three-time U.S. Open champion.

Shot 2: Woods is on the green now. Will be interesting to see if he can get a circle around his score here.

Shot 1: Woods puts his strike right on the fairway.

Hole 2, Par 4

Shot 4: Silky putt by Woods from distance as he saves par once more. If his approach game was a little more consistent, he could be wreaking some serious havoc on the tournament leaderboard.

Shot 3: Another impressive chip puts Woods in decent position to keep his scorecard clean through two.

Shot 2: Woods places his effort on the grass. Unfortunately, it's well short of the green. He'll have to get clever to give himself another chance at par.

Shot 1: Woods' first shot on No. 2 goes into the rough. Not ideal.

Hole 1, Par 4

Shot 4: Woods takes par to kick things off.

Shot 3: Nicely played by Woods, who delivered a delicate chip to put himself in position to get an even score on Hole No. 1.

Shot 2: Woods' effort tumbles off the green. He'll have his work cut out for him if he wants to save par.

Shot 1: With a raucous gallery behind him, Woods lines his shot into the fairway. Could set him up nicely for his upcoming approach shot.

12:10 p.m.: Woods is in the building…or rather, outside of it. Either way, Woods is on the course and readying up for his 1:14 p.m. ET tee time.

Tiger Woods tee time today

Woods will tee off at 1:14 p.m. ET along with Will Zalatoris and Matt Fitzpatrick.
