Tiger Woods return to the Quicken Loans National was an even mix of up and down moments in Round 1 on Thursday.
Woods finished the day at an even 70, sitting tied for 52nd place. TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm featured a tough front nine and back nine that saw a healthy dose of birdies from a number of players.

To start the day, Woods logged four straight pars before a shot into the hazard on Hole 6 turned from bad to worse and resulted in a double bogey. It was smooth pars from there until the latter half of the back nine when he started heating up and recorded birdies on 14 and 16 to get back to even where he finished the day.

Fitting with his Round 1 finish, Woods had up and down moments that evened themselves out throughout the day. He had a stretch of rough tee shots that mixed with solid approaches early on. Later in the day his tee game was rolling while his putting left quite a bit to be desired.
The Quicken Loans National was created with the help of Woods in 2007 and has been hosted by the Tiger Woods Foundation every year since. Woods won the tournament in 2009 and 2012. This will be his first appearance back at the tournament since 2015, when he tied for 18th.
