Scottie Scheffler may make history this weekend at Augusta National, but it might not be for wearing the green jacket.
After two rounds at the Masters, Scheffler is in a three-way tie for first place with Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa. But at any moment, the co-leader could withdraw from the tournament for a more important reason back home.
His wife, Meredith, is pregnant with their first child, with the baby due in April. Ahead of the Masters, Scheffler said he would withdraw if she was going into labor. The pledge came before he was tied for first place through two rounds, though the placement isn't unexpected.
Scheffler entered the tournament as the world's No. 1 golfer and after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship in March. He won the Masters in 2022.
Will Scheffler withdraw from the Masters and travel back home to be with his pregnant wife? Here's more on the situation.
Where does Scottie Scheffler live?
Scheffler and his wife live in Dallas, Texas.
That's about a three-hour flight from Augusta, Georgia, according to Google Maps, though that time estimate doesn't factor in a possible private flight home or any expedited trip.
Scheffler knew he may have to leave Augusta mid-tournament, so he could already have travel arraignments set to get him back in Dallas as quickly as possible.
While Scheffler was born in New Jersey, he spent most of his childhood in Dallas. He met his wife Meredith at Highland Park High School in University Park, Texas, just outside downtown Dallas.
When is Scottie Scheffler's wife due?
Scheffler's wife, Meredith is expected to give birth by the end of April. While it's not quite the end of the month, pregnancy lengths vary, thus giving Scheffler reason to believe his wife could give birth any time now.
Ahead of the Masters' Scheffler told reporters that they hadn't seen any early signs of labor. "But pregnancy is weird. It can happen at any time. Yeah, open lines of communication and she can get ahold of me if she needs to."

Scottie Scheffler tournament wins
Scheffler has just one major win to his name: the 2022 Masters. He does, however, have eight PGA Tour wins. That includes back-to-back wins at The Players Championship in 2023 and 2024, and he is the only player to do so.
