PGA Tour Championship: Thomas claims $10M FedEx prize, rookie Schauffele wins Tour Championship image

The PGA Tour Playoffs finished this weekend with rookie Xander Schauffele winning the  PGA Tour Championship  at East Lake, and Justin Thomas taking home the FedEx Cup title.

Schauffele, who topped the leaderboard at 12-under, is the first rookie to win the Tour Championship, and his performance will change his life. Last year, Schauffele won $149,000 on the Web.com Tour. Now he will bring home more than $3.5 million for the tourney win and a third-place finish in the FedExCup.

Thomas, meanwhile, caps off his breakout season with the  FedExCup  title. He more than doubles his 2017 earnings with the $10 million bonus. He finished the Tour Championship in second place behind Schauffele at 11-under.

Thomas managed to hold off Spieth and Dustin Johnson, who rounded out the top three in FedExCup points heading into the final playoff weekend. Thomas will most likely be the Tour Player of the Year after five Tour wins, in addition to winning his first major at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

PGA Tour Championship: How it happened

Quite a year for these young players on Tour.

Xander's last putt on 18 almost skips by the hole. He finishes with a score of 12-under to win the Tour Championship.

JT finishes at 11-under. And with that, he will win the FedExCup.

Thomas ties Xander at -11.

Henley finishes at -10.

Thomas now holds second place at 10-under thru 16. Xander still at -11.

Kisner and Casey both bogey 15. Kisner moves to -9 and Casey to -8.

Kisner and Casey both find the water on 15. JT has a shot now to take the lead.

JT birdies 16 to get within one shot of the lead.

Spieth just misses his birdie putt on 18. He finishes at 7-under and second in FedExCup projected standings.

Risky move, but with everything on the line Spieth takes an aggressive shot.

All for this.

Roller coaster ride for Xander in his rookie season.

A birdie from JT puts him tied for the lead and projected to win the FedExCup.

Casey falls to -9 with three bogeys, now two shots back from the lead.

Spieth is charging on the back nine, and for a good reason.

Sergio Garcia has four birdies on a bogey-free round so far. He moves to -7, also four strokes back from the leader.

Another chance for JT to make history today.

There are now eight players within four shots of the lead.

Casey falls back to -11. Not a good thing when you have JT and Rahm chasing you.

Spieth holes out for an eagle just after making the turn. He's right back in it at -7.

DJ's aim is dead-on.

And the scenarios keep on coming. Here's how the final group can win the $10 million...

Spoke too soon. Spieth's in some trouble after his tee shot lands way right of the fairway on the 5th hole.

He's got a lot of work to do, but this is the start Spieth needs.
