PGA Championship 2024 purse, payout breakdown: How much prize money does the winner make? image

The field of 156 at Valhalla Country Club is fighting for the right to be crowned the 2024 PGA Championship winner. Not only does the champion of the event notch a golf major win to their resume, but they also get to take home the Wanamaker Trophy.

However, that's not all. Like every tournament on the PGA Tour, there's a cash prize to be won at the event, with the most money going to the winner — and it's no small amount.

Louisville is the site for this year's PGA Championship, the second major on the PGA Tour. Brooks Koepka enters this year as the defending champion, taking home the Wanamaker Trophy and $3.33 million last year after beating Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler.

How much will the winner be taking home this year from the 2024 PGA Championship?

Here's everything you need to know about this year's purse and winner's share.

Of note: Among golfers who tied in the final standings, the money they would have made in their respective positions was added up and divided evenly.

For example, Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland tied for second place in 2023. The earnings for the second- and third-place positions — $1.89 million and $1.19 million, respectively — were added together and divided among the two players for their final payout ($1.54 million each, as listed by PGATour.com).

2024 PGA Tour's biggest purses, winner's shares

At one point, the PGA Championship was among the highest-paying events on the calendar. That no longer is the case.

Under the tour's new pay structure, which was introduced to combat defections to LIV Golf, the PGA Championship is far down the list of highest-paying tournaments on the calendar.

Here's where the PGA Championship ranks this year in terms of golf's biggest purses and winner's shares:

Events with identical purses and winner's shares are listed by date on 2024 PGA Tour schedule. U.S. Open and Open Championship figures are from 2023.
