Masters 2022 scores, highlights: Sungjae Im emerges with lead after Round 1 image

Round 1 of the 2022 Masters Tournament is in the books. South Korea's Sungjae Im finished the day atop the leaderboard after shooting a 5-under-par 67 on Thursday.

Im survived back-to-back bogeys on holes 10 and 11 by making five birdies and an eagle on the day, including birdies on each of his first three holes.

Right behind Im is Cameron Smith, who was the clubhouse the leader for a while after a 68. Smith bracketed his day with double bogeys, with a 6 on the par-4 first hole and another 6 on the par-4 18th. On holes 2 through 17, however, he made eight birdies.

Four players are tied for third at 3 under: Dustin Johnson, Danny Willett, Joaquin Niemann and Scottie Schefler. Johnson was in danger of falling out of the top five as he faced a tough approach on 18, but a terrific third shot onto the green from the gallery allowed him to save par.

In his first professional appearance in 508 days — not to mention his first since the gruesome car accident that nearly cost him his leg last year — Tiger Woods managed to shoot a 1-under 71. He will look to take that momentum into the weekend as he continues to walk the arduous course at Augusta National.

Masters live updates, highlights from Thursday's Round 1

All times Eastern.

7:38 p.m.: Dustin Johnson saves par on the 18th to stay at 3 under heading into the second round. He is tied for third as he ends his day.

7:12 p.m.: Dustin Johnson bogeys 17 to drop to third behind Sungjae Im and Cameron Smith. Johnson sits at 3 under heading into 18.

6:54 p.m.: Sungjae Im finishes his day as the leader in the clubhouse with a 67, five under for the day.

6:39 p.m.: Harold Varner III gets in the red with a birdie on No. 16.

6:09 p.m. : Sungjae Im birdies 15 to take the solo lead over Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith.

5:57 p.m.: Dustin Johnson saves par again, keeping himself at the top of the leaderboard tied at 4 under with Sungjae Im and Cameron Smith.

5:29 p.m.: Eagles galore in the first round, this one from Harold Varner III.

5:24 p.m.: And here's Sungjae Im, vaulting himself to the top of the leaderboard again.

5:15 p.m.: One over through the front nine isn't the worst place to be.

4:50 p.m.: There's another golfer atop the leaderboard after this incredible shot from Dustin Johnson:

4:30 p.m.: And that ill do it for Tiger, whose day ends with a par on 18. He will take that, all things considered.

3:43 p.m.: Tiger with the patented fist pump after a 20-foot birdie on 16. That puts him back to 1 under.

3:34 p.m.: Cameron Smith is incredible right now, going 6 under for the day.

3:05 p.m.: Not quite enough for eagle, but a birdie that Tiger likely won't turn down.

2:39 p.m.: Very nice from Cameron Smith.

2:25 p.m.: Shane Lowry gets back to even with this chip-in eagle.

1:45 p.m.: A little background on that eagle from Niemann; it's just the sixth eagle on Hole 9, and the first since 2013.

1:38 p.m.: What. A. Shot.

1:04 p.m.: "Consecutive birdies for Joaquin Niemann."

12:38 p.m.: Tiger has a brilliant tee shot off Hole 6 that lands mere inches from the pin. He gets the easy putt for his first birdie of the day and is now tied for third at 1 under.

12:18 p.m.: Very difficult shot here (on a difficult hole) by Cameron Smith nets him a birdie. He's back to 1-over for the day.

11:54 a.m.: Another missed opportunity for Tiger, whose birdie putt from 7 feet out bobbles and cuts too short. He gets par but is understandably frustrated.

11:51 a.m.: B-E-A-utiful from Tony Finau.

11:39 a.m.: Tiger misses just left of the hole on his 17-foot birdie attempt, and taps it in for par on Hole 2. A miss, but not a huge one.

11:18 a.m.: Tiger salvages par to thunderous applause at Hole 1. Onto the next one.

11:07 a.m.: Tiger's first shot is in the bunker, or just off it.

11:05 a.m.: A surreal moment for Tiger Woods at the first tee, playing his first competition since his car crash.

11:02 a.m.: Paul Casey has withdrawn from the Masters.

10:18 a.m.: Padraig Harrington salvages par with an incredible 67-foot putt to remain at 1-under for the day.

9:23 a.m.: Stewart Cink will have his son on the bag this week in Augusta.

7 a.m. — An early morning thunderstorm delayed the start of the Masters. All tee times have been pushed back 30 minutes. That means Tiger Woods will now tee off at 11:04 a.m. ET.

The Masters will air live on ESPN for the first two days before shifting to CBS for Rounds 3 and 4.
