Even the worst golfer in the field at LIV Golf's 2023 opening event in Mayakoba, Mexico will come away with a handsome payday.

Indeed, that's part of the draw for the fledgling tour, whose massive payouts were lucrative enough to lure some of the top talent on the PGA Tour to the Saudi-backed series. And that's not even considering the top golfers in the event.

Just last season, former FedEx Cup Champion Dustin Johnson won the inaugural LIV Golf tour title, leading both in points and in total earnings: a whopping $35.6 million. To compare, Scottie Scheffler set the official PGA Tour winnings record with $13.17 million.

Saudi investors haven't been afraid to pump money into the fledgling golf tour. LIV has not only increased the number of events this season (jumping from eight in 2022 to 14 in 2023) but has also included 11 international series events that have $5 million purses apiece, for an astounding $405 million in total winnings for the 2023 season.

The spree begins in earnest at the El Camaleón Mayakoba Golf Course in Mexico. Here's how much the field can expect to make at the opening event of the 2023 LIV Golf schedule, including individual and team winnings:

As was the case last year, LIV Golf events will feature a $25 million purse, $20 million of which is devoted to individual golfers and the remaining $5 million set aside for golfers based on the top three teams in the standings.

The number of LIV events will also increase in 2023, from eight events to 14.

How much does the winner get?

The winner of this weekend's event in Mayakoba, Mexico will make no less than $4 million as the individual winner of the event. The same will be true for each of the other 13 events this season.

Moreover, the winning team in Mexico will win $3 million, with the winnings divided four ways among the winning team members. Each member on the winning team will win $750,000 each. The second-place team will earn $1.5 million divided four ways ($375,000 each) while the third place will make $500,000 divided four ways ($125,000).

If the top-rated golfer is also on the winning team in any LIV Golf event, they will make $4.75 million in winnings, not including bonuses. The lowest-rated golfer will win $120,000 just for playing an LIV event.
