Jim Furyk quit six holes into Thursday's BMW Championship. It was the first time in 20 years Furyk withdrew from a golf tournament.
Furyk entered competition in Lake Forest, Ill., ninth in FedEx Cup standings. The BMW Championship is the third qualifying event in the series.

Starting at the 10th hole, Furyk dropped two shots before a birdie at No. 12. Three pars followed, but that was all he could muster.
Furyk had a sore wrist in recent months and was playing with a wrap on his left arm.
Pulling out on Thursday will give Furyk time to nurse his sore wrist. He likely will be among the 30 players in next week's FedEx Cup finale, the TOUR Championship outside Atlanta. Furyk is a former FedEx Cup champion and is among a dozen American players who will take part in the Presidents Cup competition next month.
