It's Ghana's time to win Afcon trophy, says president Akufo-Addo image

Ghana president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has thrown his support behind the Black Stars ahead of their participation at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The four-time champions have been regular Afcon participants since 2006, reaching the semi-finals on six occasions and the final twice in 2010 and 2015. Their last won the title was in 1982.

At the 2017 Afcon, Ghana will face Egypt, Uganda and Mali in Group D.

"Best wishes to the players, technical and management team of the Black Stars," Akufo-Addo posted on Twitter.

"Time to end our 35 year wait for the Afcon trophy. Go for gold!" he added.

Avram Grant's men spent eleven days in Dubai to prepare for the tournament, and departed on Saturday for Gabon.

The Black Stars will play their first game against Uganda at the Port-Gentil Stadium on Tuesday before facing Mali four days later.

Team captain Asamoah Gyan will be making his seventh consecutive appearance at the Afcon since his debut in 2006.

He will be become the first player ever to score in seven different editions if he hits the back of the net in Gabon.
