Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line for Portugal as the 2016 European Championship winners take on Spain in their World Cup opener on Friday.

Fernando Hierro makes his first team selection after taking over from Julen Lopetegui, with the latter leaving the national team to take over Real Madrid for the 2018-19 season.

Hierro opts for Diego Costa in attack, with David Silva, Andres Iniesta and Isco behind the Atletico Madrid forward. 

Elsewhere, Manchester City's Bernardo Silva starts for Portugal in a team which also includes Goncalo Guedes of Valencia.

Portugal starting XI: Rui Patrício, Cedric, Pepe, Fonte, Guerreiro, Moutinho, Carvalho, B. Silva, Fernandes, Ronaldo, Guedes.

Spain starting XI: De Gea, Nacho, Piqué, Ramos, Alba, Busquets, Koke, Iniesta, David Silva, Isco, Diego Costa.
