Didier Deschamps' men were far from their best, but created a moment of quality to break the deadlock as Mbappe scored his first World Cup goal. At the other end Peru created two good opportunities, but Paolo Guerrero failed to beat Hugo Lloris from inside the box, while Pedro Aquino's effort in the second half struck the post and bounced wide. Ricardo Gareca's side just lacked a clinical edge in the final third and for that reason, they're heading home after their final Group C game.

France are through to the knockout stages of the World Cup courtesy of their 1-0 win over Peru. Kylian Mbappe scored the only goal of the game to hand Les Bleus their second victory of the tournament, which sends the South American outfit crashing out.

Full Time: France win 1-0, but the team that many considered pre-tournament favourites still aren’t up to speed. Peru can consider themselves unlucky to be eliminated after two hearty performances against both France and Denmark. France progress to the next round but Les Blues fans have to be worried about coming up against tougher opposition after the way they have played.

90+2 Mins: WIDE! Matuidi goes for a strike to nothing on the edge of the box on the volley, just sending his effort wide of the post.

90 Mins: There will be four additional minutes played at the end of this game.

France Sub: Paul Pogba makes way for Steven N'Zonzi

87 Mins: SAVE! Guerrero goes for goal and he lifts his effort over the wall, but it does not have the power or curl to trouble Lloris, who makes a comfortable save.

86 Mins: Yellow card: Pogba catches Farfan with an outstretched arm and he goes into the book. Peru have a free-kick in a decent position.

85 Mins: Umtiti rises at the back post to clear the danger. He's been a rock at the back for his side for the majority of the game. Umtiti was beaten only once and Guerrero failed to make him pay.

84 Mins: Guerrero makes a charge down the left channel and he wins a corner off the legs of Pavard. Peru send numbers forward to attack the set-piece.

Peru Sub: Last roll of the dice for Peru as Ruidiaz replaces Cueva.

82 Mins: WIDE! Dembele goes for the kill as he latches on to Giroud's knockdown. He drills a low effort towards the net from the edge of the box, only to pull his strike wide of the mark.

81 Mins: A yellow card is orginially shown to Flores as he protests that he shouldn't be booked the VAR looks over it and spots the case of mistaken identity leading to Aquino picking up the booking.

France Sub: Fekir is on for Griezmann.

77 Mins: Peru are running out of time to break down Les Bleus. They've put forward a fine display, but have lacked the quality in the final third.

France Sub: Ousmane Dembele is on for Kylian Mbappe.

73 Mins: WIDE! Peru send a long ball forward as Guerrero battles Umtiti. It lands at the feet of Cueva, who sends the ball out wide for Carrillo. He fires the ball across the face of goal. Farfan sticks out a leg in the left inside channel, but the ball strikes only the sidenetting.

71 Mins: France are trying to take the pace out of the game. Peru have thrived when the tempo has been increased, but Les Bleus are trying to stifle that flair with a slow build.

69 Mins: Guerrero battles Umtiti in the final third and Peru are able to win a corner as the ball comes off the France defender last. However, a foul on Giroud from the resulting set-piece gives Les Bleus breathing space.

68 Mins: OVER! Advincula and Carrillo combine down the right flank. The full-back cuts back to shoot on his left foot with a rasping effort at goal, which sails just a fraction over the bar.

Paolo Guerrero Peru France World Cup

67 Mins: Flores works the ball into the box for Guerrero, but he meets the ball with his head and knocks it away from danger. He's not been at his best this afternoon.

65 Mins: France have dropped back into a defensive shape to absorb the pressure. However, they have ample pace on the break to exploit space when the Peru full-backs push forward.

STAT: Peru have now attempted 24 shots without scoring at the 2018 World Cup finals; only Morocco (28) and Germany (26) have had more without a goal.

62 Mins: OVER! Peru work the ball well in the final third and it hands Carrillo space to fire a drive towards the net. He gets the power, but not the accuracy on his shot, which sails over the bar.

61 Mins: Advincula makes a break down the right flank and bursts past Hernandez to cross the ball into the box. However, Umtiti clears the danger with ease in the middle.

59 Mins: Carrillo goes on the charge and attempts to break between Matuidi and Hernandez on the edge of the box. He flings himself down under pressure, but the referee tells him to get to his feet.

58 Mins Deschamps' men are taking control of the contest in the early stages of the second half. They're giving Peru little to no room to exploit.

57 Mins: Mbappe rises from the corner with Gallese in the middle. Fortunately for the South American side, the ball bounces safely before they can clear the danger.

56 Mins: France are working the ball around the Peru backline deep in the final third. Pogba teases his man before winning a corner for his team.

54 Mins: Carrillo sends Hernandez tumbling to the floor on the left flank. It's another free-kick to France.

54 Mins: Giroud wins a header in the box from the free-kick and the ball bounces awkwardly, although Gallese is able to come through to gather it ahead of a couple of blue shirts.

52 Mins: Farfan brings down Mbappe on the charge and hands France a free-kick on the left flank. Les Bleus pour men forward into the box.

50 Mins: OFF THE POST! Farfan tees up Aquino on the edge of the box. He makes sweet contact with his right-footed strike. It pings off his foot and travels towards the top corner, but his effort hits the upright and travels behind for a goal-kick. Peru inches away from an equaliser.

48 Mins: Umtiti is back on his feet and we're back underway in the contest.

STAT: France have never lost a World Cup game when leading at half time (W19 D1).

47 Mins: Farfan and Umtiti collide in the air and the defender receives a knee to the thigh. He tumbles to the deck in agony. A sore one for the Barcelona man.

46 Mins: Peru get the game restarted

Peru Sub: Yotun and Rodriguez come off for Farfan and Santamaria.

Ricardo Gareca's men may rue a missed opportunity from Paolo Guerrero, who could have opened the scoring in the 31st minute, but he failed to beat Hugo Lloris. For all their pressing it was the one clear-cut chance that Peru made in the first half. They will need to create a lot more openings in the second half to avoid a premature exit.

France lead Peru 1-0 at the break thanks to Kylian Mbappe's first World Cup goal. The South American side will be eliminated from the competition should they fail to make a comeback in the second half. They began with a rapid intensity, but Les Bleus were able to ride out the early storm before hitting on the counter later in the half. Mbappe was in the right place at the right time to tap home after Olivier Giroud's shot was deflected goalwards to put his team in control.

HALF TIME: France go into the half 1-0 up. Peru started well but they began to slow in the latter stages of the half. France still don't look as good as they do on paper but they're getting the job done so far.

45 Mins: There are to be two added minutes at the end of the first half.

43 Mins: Mbappe raids into acres of space in the right inside channel and he cuts the ball back towards the middle, but Cueva is there to clear the danger for Peru.

42 Mins: WIDE! Kante rolls the ball towards Griezmann on the edge of the box and he offloads immediately behind him for Hernandez. He goes for the blast, but sees his effort blocked by a wall of players. His second effort travels wide of the post on the half-volley.

40 Mins: France break on the counter through Mbappe and he offloads to Griezmann in space. The Atletico Madrid forward tries to pick out Giroud at the back post, but Gallese is off his line to gather ahead of the Chelsea man.

38 Mins: Carrillo has switched flanks and he tries to work the ball in towards Guerrero in the box, but the solid line of France defenders are there to deny the Peru forward.

36 Mins: Peru just lost their composure at the back and Les Bleus were clinical enough to expose their deficiencies. The South American side have a lot of work ahead of them now to get back into the game.

34 Mins: GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! MBAPPE TAPS HOME!!!! FRANCE LEAD 1-0!!! This time Mbappe does find the net as he converts from close range. Giroud did the hard work with a run into the box to latch on to Griezmann's throughball. His strike was deflected by Ramos, but it beat Gallese. Mbappe followed the ball in and was able to guide it over the line. A hammer blow for Peru.

33 Mins: CLOSE! Pogba unlocks the Peru defence with a fine lofted pass over the top of the line for Mbappe. He has his back to goal and has to strike it at an awkward angle. Mbappe can't quite connect and it allows Gallese to make the save.

32 Mins: That was the opening that Peru were searching for in the final third. They will not get many better than that, but the striker failed to hit the corners with his left-footed drive.

30 Mins: CHANCE! Flores feeds the ball into Guerrero in the box and he takes a good first touch to get away from Umtiti. He only has to place his strike either side of Lloris, but he goes straight at the keeper, who makes a solid stop.

28 Mins: Guerrero, Cueva and Carrillo attempt to probe down the right flank, but between Umtiti and Hernandez, Les Bleus do enough to thwart another Peru attack.

26 Mins: Peru are being urged forward by the noise of their fans around the stadium. They're not backing down from the challenge and France are having to work hard at the back to keep them in check.

24 Mins: France clear the corner as far as Flores, who goes for a strike from 20 yards on his left foot. The attempt does not have a lot going for it, being pulled well wide of the target.

24 Mins: Advincula has acres of space to drive into down the right flank. He goes for the early cross, but Hernandez gets back to divert the ball out for a corner.

23 Mins: Guerrero and Umtiti have a disagreement and it results in the Peru forward entering the book for his reaction.

22 Mins: It has been an action-packed contest thus far. Both sides are going for it in the final third, leaving plenty of space for counters.

20 Mins: Rodriguez fouls Umtiti in the box from the free-kick and it hands France an opportunity to clear their lines.

19 Mins: Trauco finds space down the left and his attempted cross into the box hits the hand of Pavard. The referee awards a free-kick to the South American side.

18 Mins: Griezmann makes a run into the right inside channel to latch on to Pavard's long ball forward. He cuts it back into the middle with a desperate left boot, but Gallese gathers with ease.

16 Mins: Matuidi catches Advincula late on the flank and goes into the book for his challenge.

15 Mins: PENALTY SHOUT! Mbappe slides a pass to Giroud, who returns with a backheel towads the PSG forward. Mbappe goes down under pressure in the box, but the referee turns down his appeal for a penalty.

14 Mins: CHANCE! Varane should put France ahead. He rises to head Griezmann's corner from the left towards goal. He gets ahead of his man to head towards the far side of the goal, but the defender places his effort wide of the post.

13 Mins: Mbappe and Hernandez combine down the flank and it forces Cueva to turn the ball behind for a France corner.

12 Mins: CLOSE! Pogba turns his man 25 yards from goal and goes for a right-footed strike. He gets the power on his effort and curl towards the bottom corner. It bounces awkwardly in front of Gallese, although it drifts just wide of the target.

11 Mins: WIDE! Giroud makes a nuisance of himself in the final third and the ball deflects to Griezmann in the right inside channel. He goes for the strike from a tight angle on his right foot, but he places his effort wide of the post.

9 Mins: Carillo gets the better of Hernandez down the right flank to lift a cross into the box. However, it sails over the head of Flores attacking the delivery at the back post.

7 Mins: Cueva and Guerrero combine in the final third, but a strong challenge from Umtiti stops the progress for the Peru forward.

6 Mins: Yotun goes for goal from the half-way line and he makes a sweet connection on his strike. Lloris backpeddles towards his goal, although the ball sails comfortably over the bar.

4 Mins: The Ekaterinaburg Arena is full to the brim of Peru supporters. It will be an intimidating atmosphere for Les Bleus for 90 minutes this afternoon.

3 Mins: Carrillo takes on Hernandez again down the right flank, testing the full-back. He sends a low cross into the box, although Varane is able to clear the danger.

2 Mins: Carrillo has a dart at Hernandez down the right flank, but the full-back holds his composure to make the challenge.

1 Min: KICK OFF France get the game underway.

The last South American team to beat France at the World Cup were Argentina in 1978. Since then, France are unbeaten in their last seven World Cup fixtures against CONMEBOL opposition (W3 D4), with three of the last four games ending goalless

France and Peru’s only previous encounter was a friendly in April 1982. The South American side won 1-0 at the Parc des Princes.

Denmark and Australia played out a 1-1 draw in the earlier Group C contest today. Therefore France can secure their place in the knockout phase of the tournament with a victory. However, Deschamps will have his sights set on going through as winners of the group.

Peru were beaten 1-0 by Denmark in their opener as Yussuf Poulsen's strike condemned them to defeat. The South American side now need at least a point this afternoon to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout phase alive. There's enough talent in their squad to give Les Bleus a tough match and they will need to rise to the occasion to produce a famous result in Ekaterinburg.

France kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 win over Australia. Les Bleus were far from their best, but strikes from Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba were enough to guide them to the three points. Didier Deschamps' men were grateful to VAR for their opening goal as Griezmann was brought down by Josh Risdon in the box. Initially the referee waved play on, but the decision was overturned allowing the forward to score from the spot.
