Week 7 Fantasy PPR RB Rankings

Our Week 7 fantasy RB PPR rankings inspire a classic PPR -vs.-standard rankings debate: Just how valuable are catches? The easy answer is "a point", but, really, the question is whether the likelihood of two or three more catches is significantly more valuable than the likelihood of extra yards and maybe a TD. We tend to think catches are automatic, but ask owners of Le'Veon Bell (one catch last week) and Austin Ekeler (three) how automatic they are.

So, when you see a guy like Bell (vs. Patriots) with a tough matchup compared to a non-receiving RB like Derrick Henry (vs. Chargers) with a favorable one, who would you rather have? Bell has plenty of upside in all phases, so it's not as if his value rests entirely on receptions, but it's definitely a big part of his game and allows him to rack up points even if he can't get in the end zone. Henry doesn't necessarily "need" a touchdown either, but his ceiling is certainly lower in PPR leagues if he has to rely on just yards.

WEEK 7 NON-PPR RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

In that case, we gave Henry the slight edge, but that it doesn't matter a ton anyway since both should be started in all leagues. Where it gets tricky is with guys like Ekeler (@ Titans) and James White (@ Jets), who are starting to rely almost entirely on receptions for value. Ekeler saw a big downtick in production last week and ceded more targets to Melvin Gordon, while White is a gamble every game. In a week where a lot of fringe backs have favorable matchups, those guys are dropping slightly even in the format that gives them so much value.

WEEK 7 PPR RANKINGS: Wide receiver | Tight end

Miles Sanders (@ Cowboys) seems to make a big play in the receiving game every week, and while he doesn't put up a ton of catches, his seven in the past two games gives him relatively stable value. However, after just three carries last week, there's a worry he's becoming "just" a receiving back. We'll chalk up that low number at least partially to game flow and bet on a better overall outcome this week. Kenyan Drake (@ Bills) continues to fight that stigma as he battles for carries for two other Dolphins, but with 10 carries last week, he still has a little more juice.

Fantasy owners lose top all-around backs Christian McCaffrey and James Conner this week, as well as Nick Chubb. PPR specialist Dare Ogunbowale is also on bye.
