Today's MLB Picks: Betting odds, Vegas totals, expert gambling advice for Wednesday, April 10 image

Last night we had a nice bounce-back showing that turned out to be very profitable after the Nationals (+135) and Twins (+210) both got outright wins as underdogs, which more than offset our one loss on the Yankees RL (-120). Wednesday brings a slate of MLB games similar to last night, and we're highlighting two underdog picks, as well as a favorite that we will look to take on the run line in a soft matchup.

Washington Nationals @ Philadelphia Phillies

Starting Pitchers: Jeremy Hellickson (RHP) vs. Nick Pivetta (RHP)
Money Line: WAS +140, PHI -165
Run Line: WAS +1.5 (-145), PHI -1.5 (+125)
Total: O/U 9.5

Last night we took a shot on the Nationals to break their slump against their divisional rivals, and they came through in extra innings to get the outright win. Tonight, we look to go back to the well for the final game of their three-game series in Philadelphia. The pitching matchup in this game is fairly even between Nats RHP Jeremy Hellickson and Phillies RHP Nick Pivetta. While Pivetta has the higher strikeout upside, Hellickson has shown a decent ability to limit bad outings -- allowing fewer than four runs in each of his past 12 starts on the road. This game will likely come down to the bullpens, which are both teams Achilles' heels, making this much more off a toss up than the current +140/-165 line would suggest. The BetQL models have handicapped the Nationals as slight favorites in this matchup at -118, so take the value on Washington and hope for another late-inning Phillies implosion.

BetQL Pick: Washington Nationals ML (+140)

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Chicago Cubs

Starting Pitchers: Jordan Lyles (RHP) vs. Yu Darvish (RHP)
Money Line: PIT +150, CHC -180
Run Line: PIT +1.5 (-145), CHC -1.5 (+125)
Total: O/U 7.5

The Cubs have really struggled out of the gate this season en route to a 3-7 record and will turn to struggling starter Yu Darvish for the second game of their series with the Pirates. Darvish has pitched poorly in both of his first two starts this season with six earned runs through only 6.2 innings. Pittsburgh will throw righty Jordan Lyles, who has flashed some decent talent at the Major League level but has also shown the propensity to get blown up at any moment. The BetQL models have handicapped the Pirates as +120 underdogs, a full 30 points off of the current line. If you don’t feel comfortable with Darvish, take the value on the underdog Pirates in this spot after they were lit up 10-0, then consider taking the OVER on the 7.5 run total, which may be a solid bet given the starting pitchers in this matchup.

BetQL Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates ML (+150)

Oakland A’s @ Baltimore Orioles

Starting Pitchers: Frankie Montas (RHP) vs. Dan Straily (RHP)
Money Line: OAK -190, BAL +160
Run Line: OAK -1.5 (-120), BAL +1.5 (+100)
Total: O/U 10

Our final bet of the night will be on the A’s, who will look to take two out of three games from the Orioles after lighting them up for 13 runs last night. The Orioles will start righty Dan Straily, who got obliterated in his first start of the season against the Yankees for five earned runs in just 1.1 innings. The A’s bats have woken up over their past three games to the tune of 25 runs, so this could be another spot where Straily is in for a short night. The Orioles lineup lacks a lot of Major League talent, so I have a hard time seeing them scoring much over their 4.5 team total if the A’s bats get going for a fourth straight night. The BetQL models are seeing better value on the A’s run line at -120 versus laying -190 on the money line, and with a few value underdogs on our betting card we will look to take the A’s laying the 1.5 runs.

BetQL Pick: Oakland A’s Run Line (-120)
