Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres

Starting Pitchers: Antonio Senzatela vs. Joey Lucchesi
Money Line: COL +140, SD -165
Run Line: COL +1.5 (-150), SD -1.5 (+130)
Total: O/U 7.5

The top-rated value bet of the night is the Rockies as they travel to San Diego for the first game of their series with the Padres. The Rockies have gotten off to a horrendous start this season at 4-12 and need to get things turned around in a hurry if they have any hopes of contending in the NL West or even for a wild card spot. Meanwhile, the Padres appear to be ahead of schedule in terms of their rebuild after a hot 11-6 start to the year. We are projecting the Rockies will have some positive regression back toward .500, while San Diego should have some regression the other direction. There is a lot of value on the current money line of COL +140, and the BetQL models have handicapped this game as a toss-up, listing the correct odds as a -110/-110 split. Take the value on the Rockies in this spot and hope that a series with a familiar opponent is the medicine that they need to get their season back on track.

BetQL Pick: Colorado Rockies ML (+140)

Cincinnati Reds at Los Angeles Dodgers

Starting Pitchers: Luis Castillo vs. Clayton Kershaw
Money Line: CIN +135, LAD -160
Run Line: CIN +1.5 (-150), LAD -1.5 (+130)
Total: O/U 7.5

Next up we have a spot to target big favorites on the run line for plus-money with the Dodgers as they host the Reds. The headline of this game is that it will be the first start of the season for Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, who is coming off of some shoulder issues. Kershaw hasn’t been the utterly unhittable pitcher that he was earlier in his career over the past two seasons, but this is still a huge mismatch with the Reds throwing Luis Castillo. The Reds only wins this season have come against the Marlins, Pirates, and  Cardinals, and they have yet to win a road game after being swept in their four-game road series with the Pirates. A West Coast trip to face Kershaw and the defending NL Champions doesn’t seem like a recipe for a bounce back. There is value on the Dodgers money line at -160, but this is a spot where I will take the Dodgers run line at +130, as a blowout could be in the cards.

BetQL Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers run line (+130)

New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies

Starting Pitchers: Noah Syndergaard vs. Aaron Nola
Money Line: NYM +100, PHI -120
Run Line: NYM +1.5 (-220), PHI -1.5 (+180)
Total: O/U 7.5

The final game that we are going to focus on is the best pitching matchup of the night with the Mets and Noah Syndergaard taking on Phillies ace Aaron Nola. Neither has gotten off to great starts this season, with Nola in particular struggling after allowing 10 earned runs over his past 9.1 innings. Both teams could use a win in this spot after New York dropped their last two games against the Braves and the Phillies dropping three of their past five games to the Nationals and the Marlins. The BetQL models have handicapped this game as the Mets being favored at -147, so it is pretty surprising to see the line at where it currently sits at +100/-120 in favor of the Phillies. Another interesting bet to consider in this game is the OVER of 7.5 runs. The sports books look to be overvaluing the total here based on the name value of the two starting pitchers, but with both pitchers struggling and both offenses humming (12.1 combined runs per game this season), there is some nice value on O7.5 at +100.

BetQL Pick: New York Mets ML (+100)
