NFL Week 2 Weather Updates: Rain, wind for Patriots-Dolphins could affect fantasy start 'em, sit 'em calls (Updated) image

There are a few weeks each NFL season when the weather truly matters, maybe it's a 20-mph wind or a potential blizzard in the Northeast, but regardless of the specific weather phenomenon, fantasy owners really care. Week 2 has a chance to be one of those weeks, so knowing the latest weather forecast and updates could be key when finalizing your Week 2 fantasy start 'em, sit 'em decisions.

Hurricane season is in full swing (as evidenced by Hurricane Dorian last week), and models are hinting at another tropical development in the Caribbean this week. It's important to state right here and now that it is still too early to know the specifics on this (potential) storm, but there is certainly a chance that it ends up around South Florida on/around Sunday, so the Patriots-Dolphins game is strongly in the "must-watch" category. Here's a rundown of the games where weather could be an issue this week.

WEEK 2 FANTASY RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

NFL Week 2 weather updates

Buccaneers @ Panthers. There's a chance of a passing shower or storm in Charlotte for Thursday Night Football. The overall coverage is maybe 20 percent, so even if it does rain this is far from a washout. Based on the low rain coverage and light winds, I don't expect any significant impacts to the game.

Patriots @ Dolphins. This forecast is not assuming any impact from the forming tropical system. It is an "if-there's-no-tropical-system" forecast. If we do have a tropical storm knocking on the door this forecast will change drastically: Much better rain chances in Miami than what we are seeing for Thursday Night Football. Typical afternoon pop-up showers and storms will fire across South Florida, and there's a decent shot that rain ends up over the field during the game. This includes the potential for heavy rain, not just a passing light shower. To add to the intrigue, winds are likely to be sustained between 10-15 mph, not quite high enough to sound the alarm but getting close. The combo here of rain and wind could be just enough to impact offenses in a negative way, but only if we do indeed get a heavy rain during the game.

UPDATE: As of Sunday morning, the Pats-Dolphins game looks much more palatable. Something like 10-mph winds and a passing shower.

UPDATE: Vikings-Packers. Chance of passing shower and light winds.

UPDATE: Browns-Jets. Chance of passing shower and light winds.

Obviously, the potential for change in the Pats-Dolphins weather forecast to change is much higher than normal weeks, so stay weather aware. You can follow me on Twitter (@KevinRothWx), check out the hourly NFL weather forecasts on RotoGrinders, or take a look at WeatherEdge.
