Is Jayden Reed playing this week? Injury update, fantasy outlook for Packers' WR ahead of Week 2 vs. Colts image

Week 1 was full of highs and lows for Packers' second-year receiver Jayden Reed. His 2024 debut was highlighted by a 70-yard touchdown reception and a 33-yard touchdown rush. Reed racked up 171 yards from scrimmage, with 103 yards coming from his two trips to the endzone.

The low point of last week's game actually had nothing to do with Reed. His quarterback, Jordan Love, went down with a knee injury on the final drive of the game. Love is expected to recover in 3-4 weeks, but this puts a massive damper on the outlook for the Packers' offense for the foreseeable future.

Love isn't the only key piece of the Packers' offense that is already banged up this season. Reed is also on the injury report with calf and shin injuries. But what's the latest on his injury status and availability as the Packers prepare to take on the Colts in Week 2?

Will Jayden Reed play this week? Injury update on Packers' WR

UPDATE: Jayden Reed is officially active this week and will play against the Colts.

The Packers have officially listed Jayden Reed as questionable for Sunday's game. Reed was able to practice in full on Wednesday and Thursday but was a limited participant on Friday with shin and calf injuries.

There is no true insight as to whether he'll be able to overcome these injuries to suit up on Sunday. Calf and shin discomfort is often something that players can overcome, especially when they are able to log a limited practice. However, considering Jordan Love is unlikely to play, it wouldn't be shocking to see the Packers express some caution with their young receiver in Week 2. This will be a situation to monitor tomorrow morning as inactive lists are made available.

Packers' WR Depth Chart: Who is Jayden Reed's Backup?

Thankfully for the Packers, they will be left with quality options at wide receiver if Reed is unable to play. Reed's backup on the official depth chart is Bo Melton. If Reed does not play, Melton will likely see a bump to his typical snap share.

While Melton is listed as the backup, the biggest "beneficiary" of Reed's absence would likely be Dontayvion Wicks. The second-year receiver is already a member of the Packers' four-man rotation, having played 46 percent of snaps in Week 1.

If Reed doesn't play, Melton would likely be a rotational receiver to some degree, while Wicks would play a role that is far closer to a full-time player. As always, keeping an eye on the reports coming out of Green Bay is crucial in hopes that they provide more clarity.

Jayden Reed fantasy outlook Week 2

After seeing Reed explode in Week 1, fantasy managers were likely ecstatic to see their mid-round receiver look like a budding superstar. Unfortunately, that excitement has to be put on hold for now. With Love on the sideline, it's difficult to be optimistic about the fantasy outlook of anyone in the Packers' offense.

The Packers may have the worst backup quarterback in the NFL. Former Titan Malik Willis is expected to fill in at quarterback for the duration of Love's absence. Willis has averaged a shade over 75 passing yards in his three NFL starts and has never really looked like an NFL-caliber quarterback.

With Willis set to lead the Packers' offense, it was already difficult to consider starting Reed. Now that Reed is banged up, it's nearly impossible. We currently have Reed as the WR45 in the Sporting News rankings and advise that he should be left on benches this week.
