Is George Kittle playing in Week 2? Fantasy injury update for Seahawks-49ers image

George Kittle is one of the few tight ends who can reasonably be counted on in fantasy football leagues. Unfortunately, in addition to production, you can always count on Kittle being a constant injury worry. That's been the case right from the start this season, with Kittle officially "questionable" for San Francisco's Week 2 matchup against Seattle. Getting the latest updates on his status will be key ahead of finalizing your fantasy start 'em, sit 'em decisions.

We'll continue to update this article with news on Kittle up until the official active/inactive report comes out on Sunday around 2:35 p.m. ET.

Is George Kittle playing Week 2?

UPDATE: ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning that Kittle is NOT expected to play against Seattle.

UPDATE 2: Kittle is officially OUT.

Kittle (groin) managed to get in a limited practice for the first time all season Friday, but for the second-straight week, he's listed as "questionable." GM John Lynch said the 49ers will hold up hope "right up until game time."

WEEK 2 PPR RANKINGS:

Unfortunately, there's a high likelihood of rain in the forecast for San Francisco tomorrow, and a wet field could be enough to delay Kittle's return. Even if worse, if he's active, the odds of aggravation and an early exit are more likely. That said, Kittle is always a must-start if he's active, especially this early in the year, but clearly he's riskier than usual.

WEEK 2 STANDARD RANKINGS:

Kittle's potential absence would mean more TE snaps for Tyler Kroft and Ross Dwelley, but neither can be trusted in fantasy leagues. Brandon Aiyuk might be the biggest beneficiary target wise, but the rain slightly dims his prospects. Deebo Samuel is the only "must-start" in the 49ers' passing game if Kittle is inactive again.

Depending on your other TE options, Kittle is likely worth waiting for. Fortunately, there are plenty of viable, widely available TE pivots from the late/prime-time games, including Robert Tonyan (vs. Bears), Irv Smith Jr. (@ Eagles), Noah Fant (vs. 49ers), O.J. Howard (@ Broncos), and Hayden Hurst (@ Cowboys). Be ready to grab one of those guys if Kittle is a no-go.
