Is Dak Prescott playing Sunday night? Fantasy injury update for Cowboys-Eagles Sunday Night Football image

Fantasy football owners suffered a major blow during Sunday Night Football in the season's opening week when Dak Prescott exited the Cowboy's loss due to a thumb injury. Fast forward to Week 6's SNF matchup between the Cowboys and Eagles, and Prescott appears on the precipice of returning. The Cowboys' star is "questionable," and if he plays, start 'em, sit 'em ripples would be felt throughout fantasy leagues.

We'll continue to update this article with news on Prescott until the official active/inactive report comes out on Sunday around 6:50 p.m. ET.

Is Dak Prescott playing Sunday night Week 6?

UPDATE: Prescott is officially OUT for Sunday night's game against the Eagles. He was listed in the Cowboys' inactives ahead of kickoff.

Prescott (thumb) got in limited practices on Thursday and Friday, leading to a "questionable" tag ahead of Sunday night's game. However, he'll miss one more week after being ruled out on Sunday night.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said this week that he "definitely" expects Prescott back by Week 8, but it remains to be seen whether he could make his return next Sunday against the Lions in Week 7.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Prescott's situation, it doesn't make sense for fantasy owners to wait around for him. Not only do you risk him sitting out (and being forced to pivot to Cooper Rush), but you also risk him playing poorly against a stout Eagles' defense. Philadelphia is allowing the fourth-fewest fantasy points to QBs.

Prescott always has upside when he plays, but he's simply too risky to trust as a fantasy starter this week, especially since you have to make the decision with no safety net. Rush isn't worth starting either, but his presence might actually be better for WRs CeeDee Lamb (hip) and Michael Gallup, who have both formed a clear rapport with the young QB. Again, Prescott will raise the ceiling of those WRs and the Cowboys' offense as a whole when he's closer to 100 percent, but fantasy owners should be rooting for him to take another week off and return in Week 7 against the Lions.

WEEK 6 STANDARD RANKINGS:
QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers

Philadelphia's D/ST is a fine play either way. The Cowboys' have offensive line issues, and facing a rusty Prescott doesn't figure to slow down the Eagles' pass rush or big-play secondary. Rush actually simplifies the Cowboys and will likely lead to fewer opportunities for Philly's D/ST, but considering this is a prime-time home game, you can still start the Eagles without hesitation.
