Fantasy Injury Updates Week 11: News on Dallas Goedert & Pat Freiermuth impact start-sit calls image

The tight end spot is often criticized for its lack of production in fantasy football, but 2023 has proven to be a fairly good year for the "best of the rest" category. Travis Kelce and T.J. Hockenson are producing at a high level, but we've seen some emerging threats like Jake Ferguson, Cole Kmet, and Dalton Schultz announce their candidacy for the set-it-and-forget status. Unfortunately, preseason favorites Dallas Goedert and Pat Freiermuth haven't joined that club yet thanks to injuries and poor production at times. Can they put their injuries aside in time to help you in Week 11?

Below, we'll give you the latest news on these key TEs and break down how their injuries could potentially affect the Week 11 fantasy landscape.

WEEK 11 FANTASY ADVICE: Sleepers | Busts | Projections | Start-sit

Dallas Goedert injury update, Week 11 fantasy outlook

Goedert (arm) was supposed to be a candidate for IR, but his outlook is much better coming out of the bye week. He had surgery and could return sometime within the next four games, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane. We don't expect Goedert to have even the slightest chance of playing in Week 11, but the positive news is a good sign moving forward.

Without Goedert, it's unlikely that we'll see the Eagles utilize a tight end much in the receiving game right now -- or at least one that can catapult into fantasy relevancy. Even though Goedert was having a down year by his standards, he was still a steady fantasy option, and his absence will surely impact how the Eagles run their offense and how you set your lineups. Philadelphia could opt to use Jack Stoll in his normal blocking role to open more room for the running backs and receivers to operate. As a result, we could see the outlooks for D'Andre Swift and Kenneth Gainwell trend upwards as Jalen Hurts eyes reliable check-down options in the short passing game. Albert Okwuegbunam will likely be the top pass-catching TE, but until we see him in action, you can't start him in fantasy.

Pat Freiermuth injury update, Week 11 fantasy outlook

Freiermuth (hamstring) had his 21-day practice window opened this week and turned in a limited session on Wednesday, meaning he could return to action as early as Sunday. We haven't seen the tight end since Week 4 in what has been a tough year for 'Muth, the Steelers' offense, and fantasy owners who are relying on the black and gold to score touchdowns.

WEEK 11 DFS:
DK lineup | FD lineup | Best values | Best stacks

He has been a productive fantasy option in the past, but concerns surrounding the Steelers' offense are rightfully top of everyone's mind in the Steel City. Even if he returns this week, it would be tough to trust Freiermuth when Kenny Pickett has struggled in year two. Freiermuth's fantasy relevance remains tied to touchdowns until proven otherwise in an offense that has proven to be incapable of supporting multiple pass-catchers in a given week. You can do better elsewhere, especially against a solid Browns' defense.
