Fantasy Injury Updates: Miles Sanders, Chase Edmonds, Matt Breida affect Week 9 waiver wire pickups image

Sunday was relatively kind in terms of new injuries to players heading into Week 9. At the running back position, Miles Sanders, Chase Edmonds and Matt Breida all didn't finish their games, which could create some waiver wire options. The injuries to Edmonds and Breida are amplified because of the quick turnaround to Cardinals vs. 49ers on Thursday Night Football. A Sanders' absence would probably just create more work for Jordan Howard in Philadelphia, but there is always a domino effect whenever an RB is hurt.

Miles Sanders injury update

Sanders was off to a great start Sunday against the Bills, with 118 yards and a touchdown on six touches. Then he left the game with a shoulder injury in the second half. Sanders didn't return. His postgame X-rays were negative, and he "should be fine, hopefully," according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Philly takes on the Bears in Week 9, a rushing matchup that hasn't been as intimidating since Akiem Hicks went on Injured Reserve. If Sanders was out, Jordan Howard would be an RB2 for the matchup. If both play, they're both in FLEX consideration. With Sanders out, Boston Scott added a touchdown of his own Sunday, and he'd probably be the change-of-pace back in Week 9 if Sanders is inactive.

Is Chase Edmonds playing Thursday night?

Edmonds left Sunday's game in the third quarter with a hamstring injury, and he told reporters he's "hopeful" to play Thursday night against the 49ers. With David Johnson already expected to miss Thursday's game, Zach Zenner and Alfred Morris are the Cardinals' other RB options.

(Update: Arizona's Monday morning acquisition of Kenyan Drake suggests Edmonds' Thursday status is in further doubt.)

Morris was inactive Sunday, while Zenner received one carry. Neither is appealing against a 49ers defense that's been a huge part of why San Francisco is still undefeated. Edmonds wouldn't even be a great play in that matchup if he plays, especially because of the won't-go-away nature of hamstring injuries.

Matt Breida injury news

Breida hurt his ankle on the last play of Sunday's first half, and in a blowout, he didn't take the field in the second half. He'd rushed more times than Tevin Coleman in the first half, although it was Coleman who finished the game with four touchdowns.

Breida's Thursday night matchup with Arizona is a great one, but considering the backfield depth in San Francisco, maybe the Niners would hold him out on the short week. It's worth noting that Jeff Wilson Jr. also left Sunday with an injury and didn't return. If both were inactive Thursday, Raheem Mostert would be an intriguing FLEX play behind Coleman.
