Justin Herbert injury update, Week 3 fantasy outlook

Herbert (ribs) played through a fracture to his rib cartilage last Thursday night after taking a couple of big hits in Los Angeles' 27-24 loss to Kansas City. Herbert finished out the game after getting hurt earlier in the fourth quarter, leading the Chargers to a late fourth-quarter touchdown drive to keep the final margin at three points. He finished the game completing 33-of-48 passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns. Coach Brandon Staley called Herbert "day to day" and said he could be back at practice this week.

On the bright side, Herbert has a couple more days to heal up from his rib injury with the Chargers playing on Thursday night. It's still unclear if Herbert will be back under center for Los Angeles' Week 3 tilt against the Jaguars, and if he were to miss time backup QB Chase Daniel would get the start. Herbert's a no-brainer start if he's deemed healthy, but if Daniel ends up getting the start, the fantasy prospects of Keenan Allen (hamstring), Mike Williams, Gerald Everett, and Josh Palmer figure to take a hit.

Jerry Jeudy injury update, Week 3 fantasy outlook

UPDATE (9/23): Jeudy was participating in practice on Friday for the first time this week, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold.

UPDATE: Jeudy is considered "day to day," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, which is good news for his outlook for Week 3 against San Francisco.

Jeudy (ribs) exited Denver's Week 2 victory over Houston in the first quarter and didn't return to action. Jeudy logged just one catch for 11 yards on three targets prior to his rib injury along with one rush attempt for one yard.

Jeudy will be further evaluated today and his status for the Broncos' Week 3 matchup against the 49ers is up in the air. If Jeudy were to miss time, secondary receivers K.J. Hamler (knee, hip), Kendall Hinton, and Tyrie Cleveland figure to see an uptick in opportunities, with Hamler being the most intriguing from a fantasy perspective assuming he's back from injury. Denver's TEs could also see more targets, but Albert Okwuegbunam didn't benefit in Week 2, so it's tough to be too excited about his prospects. Jeudy remains a low-end WR2 if he's deemed healthy for Week 3.

Dalton Schultz injury update, Week 3 fantasy outlook

UPDATE: Schultz's MRI showed no structural damage to his knee, but it's still possible he misses time.

Schultz (knee) got banged up in the later stages of Dallas' 20-17 Week 2 victory over Cincinnati. After suffering the injury on a pass attempt from Cooper Rush, Schultz attempted to return to game action but only managed to stay on the field for two snaps before limping off to the sidelines. Dallas' TE1 finished Week 2 with two receptions for 18 yards on four targets. Schultz also lost a fumble in the third quarter that gave Cincinnati solid starting field position.

The Cowboys believe Schultz didn't suffer an ACL injury, but there's a good chance he misses some regular-season action moving forward. For the time being fellow TE Jake Ferguson looks to fill his void, but he isn't worth starting in fantasy leagues just yet.

Trey Lance injury update

Lance broke an ankle early in Week 2's game against Seattle, ending his season and likely leading to a long road to recovery.

Lance is still slated to be San Francisco's starting QB next season, though, with Jimmy Garoppolo in the last year of his contract. Dynasty leaguers should hang onto him, though it's fair to wonder how a QB who relies so much on running will bounce back from an injury like this. If Lance makes a full recovery, he still can be a dynamic, top-five fantasy QB. Obviously, his prospects are murkier now, as he'll still have limited starting experience and now more injury concerns.
