Fantasy Injury Updates: Kenny Golladay, Chris Godwin, George Kittle, more affect Week 2 start 'em, sit 'em calls image

Fantasy owners had to deal with wide receiver injuries all last week, and that's the case again heading into Week 2. Kenny Golladay, Chris Godwin, DeVante Parker and Courtland Sutton are all fantasy starters questionable to be active, creating potential sleepers and altering the WR rankings. It doesn't stop there for pass-catchers, either -- tight end George Kittle could be in doubt for Week 2 and bring Jordan Reed into start 'em, sit 'em discussions for the first time in a while.

Kenny Golladay injury update

UPDATE: Golladay remained out of practice Thursday.

After missing Week 1 with a hamstring injury, Golladay remained out of Lions practice Wednesday. He watched from the side with a helmet. Until Golladay gets back on the practice field, it's tough to expect him to play in Week 2 against the Packers.

With Golladay out, T.J. Hockenson had a solid Week 1 and is in the TE1 conversation if Golladay misses out again. Marvin Jones is at least a flex play with Golladay out, while rookie Quintez Cephus deserves deep-league consideration after being targeted 10 times in Week 1. You can also consider Danny Amendola as a back-end flex play in PPR leagues if Golladay is out. All those players get knocked down a notch if Golladay plays, while Golladay himself is at least a WR3 with upside to be more when healthy.

Is Chris Godwin playing in Week 2?

After not showing symptoms Monday or Tuesday, Godwin is now in the NFL's concussion protocol as of Wednesday. He took a late blow to the head in Sunday's loss to the Saints. Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians said Tampa Bay will be "very cautious" with Godwin ahead of a Week 2 matchup with Carolina.

Mike Evans looks good to go for Week 2 after dealing with a hamstring issue last week, but you were playing him anyway. The two biggest beneficiaries of a potential Godwin absence are likely Scotty Miller and O.J. Howard. Miller becomes a WR3 option in PPR formats and a flex play in standard leagues if Godwin is out, while Howard deserves serious TE1 consideration after already catching a touchdown last week. Tom Brady did find Godwin six times despite struggling in Week 1, so Brady might need to be on your fantasy bench if Godwin sits.

Will George Kittle play Week 2?

UPDATE: Kittle missed Thursday's practice while battling the knee injury. His availability will now likely hinge on his Friday practice status.

Kittle sprained his knee in Week 1 against the Cardinals, and although he played through it, he didn't record any stats after the injury. Kittle sat out Wednesday's practice, and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Kittle could sit out all week and still play in Week 2 against the Jets.

Of course you're playing Kittle if he's active, even if he's less than 100 percent. An inactive Kittle could mess up a lot of fantasy lineups, though. Kittle's direct replacement is Jordan Reed, who likely can still be somewhat productive when healthy (which he apparently is right now). You might be better off looking in your league's free-agent pool for O.J. Howard or Logan Thomas if Kittle is indeed out.

DeVante Parker injury update

UPDATE: Parker (hamstring) remained limited in Thursday's practice, according to ESPN's Cameron Wolfe. His Friday status will be key in determining his availability for Sunday's game. He appears to be trending in the right direction, but soft-tissue injuries tend to linger.

Parker aggravated a hamstring injury enough in Week 1 to miss the second half against the Patriots, but he's been given "a real chance" to play in Week 2 against the Bills. Parker's limited practice Wednesday is a good sign, and if he can get in a full practice by the end of the week, he should be in line to play.

If Parker can reinjure his hamstring once, he could do it again, which is a concern if he's active and you want to start him in Week 2. Bills star cornerback Tre'Davious White will also surely get the Parker assignment, which could slow him down even more. Parker's a low-end WR3 or possible flex play if active when matched up with White, and if Parker doesn't play, Preston Williams likes that tough matchup.

Courtland Sutton injury news

UPDATE: Sutton is officially being deemed "questionable" by Broncos head coach Vic Fangio. It may be hard to trust Sutton in his first game back from injury against the elite Steelers defense, but if he plays and you don't have comparable options, you have to play him.

Sutton (shoulder) was limited in Wednesday's practice. He'd missed practice Friday of last week after hurting his AC joint, which led to his absence in Denver's Monday night opener. A report Tuesday suggested the Broncos hope Sutton is able to do more by the end of the week.

Broncos head coach Vic Fangio made Sutton's injury sound like a range-of-motion concern in Week 1 when he said Sutton would just need to do 10 jumping jacks to be active. Denver plays a strong Steelers defense in Week 2, which means Sutton is a WR3 if active, but if not, it doesn't immediately vault Jerry Jeudy anything higher than a possible flex play.
