Fantasy Injury Updates: James Conner, David Johnson, Chase Edmonds, more RBs impact Week 9 RB waiver pickups image

James Conner and David Johnson have spent a lot of time in our injury updates together this season, and heading into Week 9, they're paired off again after Conner left Monday Night Football with an injury. Johnson's handcuff might not be the usual Chase Edmonds, because he's hurt as well, which might press the newly acquired Kenyan Drake into immediate duty. On the positive side of RB injuries, Derrius Guice should be on track to return when he's eligible in Week 11.

James Conner injury update

Conner exited Monday Night Football with what the Steelers termed afterward as a "shoulder, AC" injury. The worst outcome here would be a broken clavicle, which would most likely knock Conner out for the remainder of the season. Tyreek Hill missed four games with a milder clavicle injury sustained in Week 1.

Benny Snell Jr. (knee) also got hurt on Monday, and Jaylen Samuels (knee) hasn't played since Week 5 because (though he did practice in full leading up to this week's game). That left Trey Edmunds as the only healthy back late in Monday's game. We should know more about the severity of Conner's injury soon, but if it's bad, expect Pittsburgh to tap into the veteran free agent RB market. Samuels would be a top free agent add this week if Conner is out an extended period.

Are David Johnson, Chase Edmonds playing Thursday night?

Reports expect both Johnson (ankle, back) and Edmonds (hamstring) to sit out Thursday Night Football against the 49ers. The Cardinals acquired Kenyan Drake from the Dolphins on Monday, and he'll probably have to play a lead back role ahead of Zach Zenner and Alfred Morris.

Drake isn't exactly an attractive fantasy play against a stout defense with his workload really a mystery, but if you're backed into a corner and need to play an Arizona RB, you'll play him over Zenner and Morris. If Drake couldn't get up to speed and was held out, too, Zenner would probably start.

When will Derrius Guice be back?

Guice (knee) was back at Redskins practice Monday. He's not eligible to come off Injured Reserve until Week 11, but Bill Callahan told reporters Monday that Guice is on track to return that week.

Guice will most likely step into the lead back role for Washington, although they might not push him too heavily to try and prevent further injury. If someone dropped Guice in your league, it's time to pick up and stash the talented second-year running back.
