Fantasy Injury Updates: Davante Adams, Amari Cooper, A.J. Green, more impact Week 7 WR rankings image

Week 7 WR rankings are littered with question marks due to injuries. There are a bunch of relevant names that could be questionable or worse heading into the weekend: Davante Adams, Geronimo Allison, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Amari Cooper, A.J. Green, Julio Jones, Tyrell Williams, Marquise Brown, Christian Kirk, Sterling Shepard and DeSean Jackson. It's also a tough bye week for wideouts, with seven fantasy-relevant options off this week. You could be scraping the bottom of the free agent pickup barrel, so if you have a few of these guys, hopefully a couple of these updates provide hope for your start-sit options for Week 7 at wide receiver.

WEEK 7 NON-PPR RANKINGS:

Is Davante Adams playing in Week 7?

Adams was listed as a 'Did Not Participate' on the Packers' estimated Wednesday injury report, as were Geronimo Allison (chest, head) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (ankle, knee). The Packers signed former Raiders' receiver Ryan Grant, suggesting at least one of these receivers will be out for Week 7. Adams still hasn't practiced since sustaining a turf toe injury in Week 4.

(Update: Adams, Allison and Valdes-Scantling all missed practice Thursday.)

It's hard to count on any of the non-Adams receivers with the way things are shaping up for Green Bay this week despite the juicy matchup with the Raiders. We could see a heavy does of both Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams, despite Oakland having a better run than pass defense. They're both RB2/FLEX considerations this week. Allen Lazard would be a potential WR3/FLEX play if two of the above receivers are out.

Will Amari Cooper play Week 7?

Cooper left Sunday's game with a bruised thigh and has yet to practice this week. The Cowboys play on Sunday Night Football against the terrible Eagles' secondary - a great matchup, but a fantasy nightmare if Cooper enters Sunday questionable.

(Update: Cooper sat out again Thursday and will test his thigh injury on Friday.)

Michael Gallup should be a starter in every fantasy lineup this week regardless of Cooper's status. Beyond him, it seems like Tavon Austin will be next in the WR pecking order and could be a speculative FLEX play who should probably get between eight and 10 touches. Cedrick Wilson should plug in as the No. 3 WR for Dallas if Cooper is out, but that's probably too risky to pursue in fantasy.

WEEK 7 DFS LINEUPS:

When will A.J. Green return?

There's been some speculation that Green (ankle) could make a return this week. Bengals' head coach Zac Taylor has been noncommittal about Green's status, and Green didn't practice Wednesday.

(Update: Green sat out again Thursday and said he has a "little ways to go" before he'll return. Cincinnati has a Week 9 bye, so it's likely he's out until Week 10.)

This still feels like another week or two for Green, but the Bengals have provided almost no information throughout the entirety of his absence, so in short -- who knows? Assuming he's out, Tyler Boyd and Auden Tate remain decent options.

Julio Jones injury update

Jones was a limited participant in Wednesday's Atlanta practice due to a hip injury, the same issue he dealt with last week before playing. Jones has been subpar by his standards across the last three weeks, with 15 catches for 202 yards and no scores in those three games despite Matt Ryan having a lot of passing success.

(Update: Jones was limited against Thursday but there doesn't seem to be any real concern about him being out Sunday.)

Maybe there's an injury linkage to Jones' production, but maybe not. You're not sitting Julio as long as he's playing, but the Rams added an interesting wrinkle to Sunday's matchup. Jones should see a heavy dose of Jalen Ramsey in coverage if Ramsey is active. Jones has never faced off with Ramsey in his NFL career.

Is Tyrell Williams playing Week 7?

Williams missed Week 5 in London with a foot injury, and he wasn't back at practice Wednesday following the Raiders' Week 6 bye. Jon Gruden said it's plantar fasciitis that Williams is dealing with, and it's now been more than two weeks since Williams has even been on a practice field.

(Update: Williams was out again Thursday and is looking doubtful for Week 7.)

Williams is shaping up to miss another game, it seems. New acquisition Zay Jones would almost certainly set up as one of Oakland's outside receivers, although he might have to deal with stud cornerback Jaire Alexander of the Packers. It's setting up for a lot of volume in a potential revenge game for former Packer and big-play threat Trevor Davis, making him a boom-or-bust FLEX play if Williams is out.

Marquise Brown injury update

Brown didn't practice last week because of an ankle injury before being inactive. John Harbaugh continues to call Hollywood day-to-day, but he missed Wednesday's practice. He'll almost certainly have to get back on the practice field to have a chance of playing Sunday in Seattle.

(Update: Brown missed practice again Thursday.)

Brown is a starting fantasy wideout if active, but his absence didn't elevate another WR into that conversation. Willie Snead is a decent PPR FLEX play, but other than that, the extra targets seemed to go to tight end Mark Andrews in Week 6.

Christian Kirk injury news

Kliff Kingsbury said Kirk remains in the rehab phase of his ankle injury, and added that Kirk needs to be 100 percent before Arizona will let him play. The Cardinals play at the Giants on Sunday.

(Update: Kirk was limited on Thursday.)

It's sounding less and less like Kirk is going to play this week. His absence would elevate guys like KeeSean Johnson and Trent Sherfield into bigger roles in the Arizona offense, but not to the point that they're anything more than desparation FLEX plays.

Sterling Shepard concussion update

Shepard was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. He remains in the NFL's concussion protocol. Shepard sustained two concussions in the season's first five weeks.

(Update: Shepard was limited again Thursday and has yet to clear concussion protocol.)

Two concussions in five weeks doesn't sound good, but if Shepard cleared concussion protocol ahead of Sunday, he'd be a decent fantasy start despite a matchup with the returning Patrick Peterson. Golden Tate is a good start against the Cardinals either way, but we'd stay away from other Giants' wideouts even if Shepard is out. If you're looking for a DFS punt option, Darius Slayton would get the snaps if Shepard is inactive.

Is DeSean Jackson playing Week 7?

Doug Pederson said earlier this week the Eagles are "hopeful" for Jackson's return, and he didn't anticipate him practicing Wednesday. The latter came true, as Jackson (groin) sat out Wednesday's practice. His participation the rest of the week will be telling. Philadelphia plays Sunday night in Dallas.

(Update: Jackson remained out on Thursday and is looking doubtful for Week 7.)

Jackson is a boom-or-bust WR3 if he's able to make his return from injury, and that's a tricky guy to count on unless there's some serious certainty ahead of the early games Sunday. Nelson Agholor hasn't been productive the last couple weeks, so he's not really a fantasy option even if Jackson is out.
