Fantasy Injury Updates: Alvin Kamara, David Johnson, James Conner, Josh Jacobs altering Week 8 start-or-sit decisions image

Alvin Kamara and David Johnson, top-10 running backs playing against each other in Week 8, both look like they'll be game-time decisions (or ruled out ahead of Sunday). They're not the only names big affecting the Week 8 RB rankings, though, as James Conner is trying to return in time to play the winless Dolphins on Monday night and Josh Jacobs might be more injured than we initially thought. Of course, every time a running back is inactive, it creates a potential fantasy sleeper and wreaks havoc on start 'em, sit 'em decisions.

Is Alvin Kamara playing Week 8?

After missing Week 8 due to an ankle injury, Kamara was held out of the Saints' practice on Wednesday. He's no longer listed on the injury report as also having a knee injury, which was a part of the reports last week.

Latavius Murray starred without Kamara in Week 7 and is a must-start in Week 8 if Kamara is out against the Cardinals. Even if Kamara plays, the case can be made that Murray is playable with his 10-12 touch secondary role in a game the Saints should control.

Will David Johnson play Week 8?

The Cardinals signed two running backs this week after Johnson got one carry and didn't play again in Week 7. Arizona also has a quick turnaround to a Thursday Night Football game in Week 9, and Johnson sat out Wednesday while listed with both ankle and back injuries.

It looks like you'll want to fire Chase Edmonds up for your Week 8 fantasy lineups despite a tough matchup with a solid Saints defense. His 27 carries and three touchdowns last week make him too promising usage-wise to avoid.

Is James Conner playing Monday night?

James Conner told ESPN he expects to play on Monday night against the Dolphins. He exited the Steelers' Week 6 game early with a quad injury ahead of Pittsburgh's bye.

Assuming Conner plays, he's a must-start against the winless Dolphins. Benny Snell Jr. would be relegated to a very speculative FLEX play in the hopes that garbage time gets him some rushing action, but who knows if Pittsburgh will even reach garbage time or if it will be too close.

Josh Jacobs injury update

Jacobs sat out Wednesday's practice with a what Jon Gruden called a "legitimate" shoulder injury, according to ESPN. Gruden added that Jacobs needed to be "shot up" to finish Week 7 after being hurt mid-game.

You'd assume Jacobs could just get the same treatment and play Sunday in Houston, but his practice status on Thursday and Friday will be telling for how good Oakland feels about his availability. DeAndre Washington would get early-down work if Jacobs is out.
