Now that the bye weeks are here and most of the pretenders have separated themselves from the contenders, it's officially "trade season" in fantasy football leagues. Whether you're looking to fill a short-term need or already planning ahead to solidify your roster for the stretch run, it's imperative to search for buy-low, sell-high trade targets on every roster in your league. Fortunately, FantasyPros is here to help with tips and trade advice in their Week 5 Stock Watch that includes key players like Jahmyr Gibbs and Alexander Mattison.

The Chargers, Browns, Bucs, and Seahawks are off in Week 5. If you're in relatively good shape this week, trading for a player on one of these teams before their bye can potentially help you swing a better deal. As soon as a player gets through his bye, he immediately becomes more valuable (and his owners know it). To really maximize value, you should look for upcoming weeks where your roster projects to be solid, then target a player who will be idle that week.

The inverse is also true. If your roster is thin and you can't afford to take on a bye-week player, look to give up a little long-term value to boost your short-term outlook with a live body. Unless you're 0-4, you aren't quite in must-win territory yet (though 1-3 is pretty close), so you don't want to give away someone like Keenan Allen for a mere flex. That said, a win now might be the difference between making and missing the playoffs, so you can afford to be a little aggressive depending on your rest-of-season outlook.

As always, remember that trade values can change rapidly in fantasy football, so don't get too honed in on a specific target. Adapt to the latest stats and trends, and don't be shy about pulling the trigger if there's a good offer on the table. -- Matt Lutovsky

Fantasy Trade Advice Week 5: Buy-low trade candidates

By Anthony Corrente

Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Lions. The majority of fantasy owners came away panicked over Jahmyr Gibbs’ usage in Week 4 following David Montgomery‘s return from injury. However, this is the perfect opportunity to buy Gibbs for a discount. Montgomery might have dominated touches in Week 4, but better days are ahead for Gibbs. He still had 13 touches of his own, and Gibbs is currently on pace for 165 rushing attempts and 76 targets in his rookie season. For comparison’s sake, Alvin Kamara saw 120 rushing attempts and 100 targets in his rookie season. Use this as an opportunity to capitalize on someone else’s concerns and go out and buy Gibbs now.

Fantasy Trade Advice Week 5: Sell-high trade candidates

Alexander Mattison, RB, Vikings. Mattison is coming off his best two games of 2023, but Cam Akers is beginning to work his way into the rotation. If this backfield turns into more of a committee as opposed to Mattison having a clear hold on the backfield to himself, his value could plummet. He doesn’t necessarily offer a ton in the passing game, so any threat to early-down work for Mattison is less than ideal. I wouldn’t sell him for peanuts, but it's worth exploring for the right deal.
