Fantasy Football Injury Updates: Josh Allen, Mitchell Trubisky shaking up Week 5 QB rankings image

Two erratic passers who help fantasy football owners with their rushing abilities were injured Sunday, as both Josh Allen and Mitchell Trubisky left their respective games with what looked like bad injuries. Allen took a brutal blow to the head, while Trubisky landed awkwardly on his left shoulder. Allen had developed into an oft-used fantasy starter in recent weeks, while Trubisky was coming off a promising Week 3 performance. Heading into Week 5, there's a decent chance that the starting quarterbacks for Buffalo and Chicago will be Matt Barkley and Chase Daniel, respectively, which would affect rankings, waiver wire pickups, and start 'em, sit 'em decisions.

Josh Allen concussion update

Allen took a vicious hit to the head from Patriots safety Jonathan Jones on Sunday that knocked him out of the game and forced him into concussion protocol. After the game, Bills coach Sean McDermott said there's no room in the NFL for hits like that. Matt Barkley took over at QB in the Buffalo loss.

The Allen hit looked bad enough that it wouldn't be shocking to see his concussion recovery last beyond Sunday of Week 5, although concussions are one of the trickier injuries to accurately assess return timelines. As long as Barkley is the quarterback, Buffalo's offensive weapons take a slight hit, especially deep-ball specialist John Brown, who will have to deal with a huge downgrade in downfield passing with Barkley. Buffalo gets the Titans in Week 5.

How long is Mitchell Trubisky out?

Trubisky suffered an injury to his left shoulder Sunday after landing awkwardly with all his weight on his left arm while it was extended. After the game, Bears coach Matt Nagy told reporters he doesn't believe the injury to be season-ending, but that he should know more in the next 24-48 hours.

(Update: Adam Schefter reported that Trubisky has a dislocated left shoulder with a slight labrum tear but doesn't need surgery. Schefter said Trubisky should be back "sooner rather than later.")

WEEK 5 DFS LINEUPS:
Y! cash | Y! GPP | FD cash | FD GPP | DK cash | DK GPP

Trubisky's injury looked bad, and when a coach speculates that it's not season-ending, it's also probably not a one-week absence. Chase Daniel will start at quarterback for the Bears while Trubisky is out, and he ran the offense competently on Sunday. Besides Trubisky's Week 3 showing against Washington, this hasn't been a well-functioning offense, anyway, so Daniel isn't really a downgrade. The Bears will travel to London to play the Raiders in Week 5.
