Fantasy Football Injury Updates: James Conner, Miles Sanders affect Week 9 RB start/sit decisions image

James Conner was injured (again) Monday, so Jaylen Samuels was one of this week's top waiver claims. It looks like it will be at least another day before we know whether Conner is available to slot into fantasy football lineups for Week 9. If not, Samuels might be more than a sleeper and just be an obvious start. In Philadelphia, rookie Miles Sanders has work to do to be ready to play Sunday, and if he's out, Jordan Howard takes on an even bigger role for the Eagles.

Is James Conner playing Week 9?

Conner left Monday Night Football with what the Steelers have called a shoulder injury. Conner didn't practice Wednesday, and Mike Tomlin told reporters that Pittsburgh will be monitoring Conner. It's Conner's Friday practice status that should tell us the most about his availability for Sunday.

The Steelers cleared Jaylen Samuels to play, so if Conner is out, he'll get the start, especially with Benny Snell Jr. (knee) out. The Colts' run defense hasn't limited yards on the ground very well, so whichever of Conner or Samuels gets the start is a must-start in fantasy.

Miles Sanders injury update

Sanders exited Sunday's game because a shoulder injury after racking up 118 yards on six touches. He sat out Wednesday's practice. The Athletic reported Monday that Sanders "won't miss time."

Philly plays the Bears in Week 9, a defense which has been average, at best, against the run since Akiem Hicks was placed on injured reserve. Jordan Howard will receive the bulk of the Eagles' carries regardless of Sanders' status, but if the rookie is out, Howard is a good start in Week 9.
