Fantasy Football Injury Updates: Brandin Cooks, Dede Westbrook affect WRs on Week 9 waiver wire image

We'll surely concern ourselves more with Davante Adams and DeSean Jackson later in the week, but Sunday itself was a tame day for WR injuries. Brandin Cooks sustained a concussion, but he's not fantasy relevant for Week 9 because of a bye. That leaves Dede Westbrook as the most likely to affect Week 9 WR rankings after a Sunday injury. His potential absence makes Chris Conley a possible Week 9 waiver wire pickup.

Brandin Cooks concussion update

Cooks left Sunday's game with a concussion sustained on a helmet-to-helmet hit on the Rams' first drive. He didn't return, but he'll get L.A.'s Week 9 bye week as added time to recover. This is the third recorded concussion of Cooks' NFL career, according to Sports Injury Predictor.

Because concussions are understood to worsen each time, a third concussion for Cooks isn't great, but at least the bye week gives him a chance to recover. Josh Reynolds played in three-wide sets once Cooks left the game and caught a touchdown. If Cooks' status looks in doubt for Week 10, Reynolds could be a speculative pickup.

Dede Westbrook injury update

Westbrook was questionable for Sunday with a shoulder injury, and he exited the game midway for what the team reported as neck and shoulder injuries. It's not yet clear if the injuries are related, but that would be the most likely possibility.

Jacksonville plays Houston in Week 9, a good matchup, but because Westbrook's health was already a question mark and might now be worse, he could miss out on that game. If he does, Chris Conley steps into the Jags' No. 2 WR role. Conley caught four-of-seven targets for 103 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown, on Sunday.
