Fantasy Football Injury Update: Is Matt Ryan playing Week 8? image

Matt Ryan injured his right ankle on a strip sack by Aaron Donald on Sunday. He didn't try putting weight on his right leg as he walked to the locker room. After the game, Ryan was spotted in a walking boot on his right foot. The Falcons' QB was having his first bad statistical game of the season before leaving, forcing his backup Matt Schaub into the action. The obvious question for fantasy owners is "Will Ryan play in Week 8?". It's too early to tell, but here are the latest updates.

Matt Ryan injury update

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Ryan will undergo an MRI on Monday, but that the Falcons don't believe the injury to be serious. Ian Rapoport reported that it's a sprained right ankle, and he added that it's something Ryan could "manage."

Atlanta plays the Seahawks in Week 8 before having a Week 9 bye. That would provide an opportunity for the Falcons to play it safe and hold Ryan out for two weeks while only missing one game.

Schaub is a significant downgrade from Ryan, who had thrown for 300 yards in every game prior to Sunday. Julio Jones would remain a must-start WR with Schaub under center, and you can't really sit TE Austin Hooper, who caught a touchdown from Schaub on Sunday. But Calvin Ridley and Mohamed Sanu both become much riskier plays if Ryan misses time.
