FanDuel Picks Week 5: NFL DFS lineup advice for GPP tournaments image

Week 5 of NFL DFS should be a fun one. With numerous solid matchups on the slate and some potential barn burners, there should be a lot of quality options at all price ranges this week. Of course, with many strong plays, that can make it hard to settle on a solid strategy, especially in GPP tournaments. Thankfully, we have you covered. This week, our FanDuel GPP lineup has a low-budget stack that allows us to target a lot of other quality picks across the board.

This stack we went after came from the Titans. They're in a favorable matchup against the Bills, so this QB-WR pairing could be a low-owned one that pays off. Elsewhere, we elected to spend down at RB and targeted a couple of lower-tier guys in excellent matchups who also will help differentiate us from other fantasy players. That allowed us to spend a bulk of our budget at receiver and grab a couple of players that could put up big stat lines in what should be one of the highest scoring games of the week.

Week 5 Rankings:
Quarterback | Running Back | Wide Receiver | Tight End | D/ST | Kicker

With all that said, here’s a look at our FanDuel tournament lineup for Week 5 of the NFL season.

Week 5 FanDuel Picks: NFL DFS tournament lineup

QB Marcus Mariota, Titans @ Bills ($6,800). I’m a proponent of spending down at quarterback, and Mariota is a bargain this week. Fresh off an outing that saw him score 31.36 FanDuel points against the Eagles, Mariota gets to take on a solid but unspectacular Bills defense. Thanks to his ability to generate yardage with his legs, he has a high-floor and looks to be more comfortable in the Titans offense now that he is healthier. As the 22nd priced QB, he’s a bargain and easily could finish in the top-10 at the position this week.

RB T.J. Yeldon, Jaguars @ Chiefs ($6,500). The Chiefs have been gashed on the ground this year, and they’ve allowed an average of 34.0 FanDuel points per game to RBs. With Leonard Fournette out, Yeldon figures to see a lion’s share of the carries, and he should be able to turn them into a lot of yardage. For this $6,500 price-tag, Yeldon has upside and could end up being a boom pick for our team.

RB Matt Breida, 49ers @ Cardinals ($6,200). Breida’s price is way too low this week. Even though he didn’t do a lot last week, the Cardinals have allowed a league-high eight TDs to RBs and just let Mike Davis explode for over 100 yards and two scores. Breida, an explosive playmaker, could rip off a long run and be the focal point of the 49ers offense on Sunday. That’s enough for us to invest in him as a starting RB this week.

WR Antonio Brown, Steelers vs. Falcons ($9,000). By spending down at QB and RB, we’re able to invest in some of the top receivers on the slate. Brown has a solid matchup with the Falcons, who are the seventh-worst against WRs in FanDuel points allowed (36.2). Brown has at least nine targets in every game this season and has scored in three of four games. He’s due for a real breakout game soon, and this matchup with the Falcons could easily be his best outing of the first five weeks of the season. He may be the most expensive receiver on the slate, but the upside is there for him.

WR Julio Jones, Falcons @ Steelers ($8,800). I have a feeling that the Falcons-Steelers game is going to be a shootout as neither team’s defense has played well to start the year. Jones hasn’t scored yet, but Matt Ryan should look to change that against the weak Steelers secondary that is allowing 39.4 FanDuel points per game to WRs. Besides, Jones is a yardage threat anyway and currently leads the NFL in receiving yards through four games (502 yards). He’s worth it as the second-highest priced player on this squad.

WR Corey Davis, Titans @ Bills ($6,400). Davis fit perfectly into my budget and is a great stack pairing with Mariota. Though Davis may get the attention of CB Tre’Davious White in Buffalo, he’s still far and away the top pass-catching option in the Titans offense. Fresh off a nine catch, 161-yard game that saw him log a TD, we like him to keep producing, as he will be given volume opportunities this year (13-plus targets in two games this year).

TE Jared Cook, Raiders @ Chargers ($5,900). Cook has two 100-plus yard games this season and was able to catch two TDs last week. The TE position is very thin this week, and his upside -- against a Chargers team that just allowed George Kittle to go off for 125 yards and a score -- is probably the best of the sub-$6K grouping.

FLEX John Brown, Ravens @ Browns ($6,400). Brown has been remarkably consistent this year, and he has seen at least seven targets in each of the past three games. Better yet, he has scored three times in four games this year and has totaled at least 86 yards thrice. Against the Browns, Brown could have another big outing and as a combination volume and big-play threat, he’s worth adding to our lineup.

D/ST Baltimore Ravens, Ravens @ Browns ($4,200). The Ravens are seeing their top corner Jimmy Smith return to a defense that just limited the Steelers to 16 points. With C.J. Mosley, who missed the team’s loss to the Bengals early in the season, on the field, the Ravens are such a better defense. Baker Mayfield may have trouble against this stout front, so we’ll hedge our bets against the rookie QB in Week 5.
