Fantasy updates on Todd Gurley, Tre Mason, LeSean McCoy and other injured RBs for Week 2 image

Fantasy football owners with C.J. Anderson (toe) are waiting on pins and needles for the Thursday night injury report to find out if the Broncos back will play against the Chiefs. If there's a silver lining, it's that Anderson's fantasy owners don't have to wait until Sunday or Monday to find out if they need to get the hobbled running back out of their lineups. That said, you may have to make a tough, early-week call on subbing in Ronnie Hillman. UPDATE: C.J. Anderson is active and will start against the Chiefs.

That's just the first RB injury concern of the week. Will Todd Gurley, Tre Mason, C.J. Spiller or Arian Foster make their 2015 debuts Sunday? Will LeSean McCoy play? Let's look at the injury updates on key fantasy running backs.

Will Todd Gurley, Tre Mason play in Week 2?

Although the Rams had not ruled Todd Gurley out for Week 3 as of Friday morning, ESPN Rams reporter Nick Wagoner does not expect the rookie to play against the Redskins despite practicing in full this week. A Week 3 debut sounds possible, though.

Meanwhile, Tre Mason (hamstring) has declared himself ready to play after getting in a full practice Wednesday. It sounds like Mason will get the start against the Redskins, but could start losing time to Gurley as soon as Week 3.

LeSean McCoy injury update

LeSean McCoy had to check out of practice Thursday and was added back to the Bills injury report with a hamstring issue. McCoy was able to play through the hamstring injury, suffered in the preseason, for Week 1 but now there's some concern about his availability for Week 2.

Bills coach Rex Ryan said he hopes McCoy will be ready for Week 2, and that he's "not giving up on" Shady playing against the Patriots. This could just be gamesmanship on Ryan's part, but McCoy owners (all fantasy owners, actually) should grab rookie Karlos Williams just in case.

Weekly Arian Foster update

Here's your weekly daily (hourly?) fantasy update on Arian Foster's groin injury: He's still hurt. In all seriousness, Foster did get in a limited practice Thursday, but he's still expected to miss Week 2. It's a step in the right direction, though, and Foster could be eyeing a Week 3 return. For what it's worth, Texans beat writer John McClain believes Foster may not play until Week 5.

Will C.J. Spiller play Week 2?

While C.J. Spiller has been expected to make his 2015 debut in Week 2 against the Buccaneers, Saints coach Sean Payton stopped short of saying that the injured back would definitely play. Spiller has been practicing on a limited basis this week and has been getting good reports. Expect him to be a game-time decision.

When will Andre Ellington return?

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington went down with a knee injury (PCL) in Week 1, and the Arizona Republic's Kent Somers says "it would be a stretch" to expect him to play at Chicago. If Ellington is out as expected, Chris Johnson would start against the Bears with rookie David Johnson coming off the bench.

Justin Forsett, T.J. Yeldon probable for Week 2

Though the Ravens' Justin Forsett (shoulder) and Jaguars' T.J. Yeldon popped up on their respective team's injury report this week, both are fully expected to be fine for Week 2. Just something to monitor Sunday morning (as if you didn't have enough to watch already).
