2020 Fantasy Football Rankings: QB

2020 Fantasy Football Rankings: QB image

Tom Brady is a Buccaneer, Kyler Murray and Josh Allen both got new weapons to throw to (Murray more so than Allen), and Jarrett Stidham is finally getting his chance to shine! OK, that last one isn't quite as important, but the opening of the NFL free agency period saw some major signings and trades that shook up the 2020 fantasy football quarterback rankings. Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Russell Wilson stood firm at the top, but the movement started early and saw some new sleepers populate the middle and lower tiers.

Murray moved ahead of Deshaun Watson after the Cardinals acquired DeAndre Hopkins from the Texans. Many owners will put Murray ahead of Wilson, but we're still giving the benefit of the doubt to the veteran, who has proved he can put up numbers regardless of supporting cast. We see Watson the same way, which is why he only fell one spot from our initial offseason rankings, but there's a case to be made for moving Allen in front of him after the Bills acquired Stefon Diggs. Either way, once you get past Jackson and Mahomes, the next tier of QBs, at least through No. 7 Dak Prescott, is full of similar guys who can get points with their legs in addition to their arms.

The next tier of QBs -- the veteran pocket passers -- remains mostly unchanged aside from the addition of Brady. We weren't high on him before, but now that he's on a team with some of the best pass-catchers in the NFL, he could really put up numbers. He'll likely get drafted ahead of some of the other veterans, but for now, we see him just inside the top 12 because of his age and immobility.

Many will rank Ryan Tannehill higher than where we have him after his resurgent 2019, but with low volume and a reliance on big plays, his margin of error is slim. The guys in front of him have much better weapons, too, but once you're in the backup tier, anything goes during the draft. Some owners might jump on Daniel Jones or Joe Burrow, thinking they're getting "this year's Lamar," so rankings only matter so much.

With the Chargers seemingly content with Tyrod Taylor as their starter (we'll see if that still holds after the draft), he becomes a sneaky sleeper. He's a solid runner and has all kinds of weapons around him. If he really is expected to be under center for the Bolts heading into Week 1 next season, he's another guy who will likely rise in the rankings. New Panthers starter Teddy Bridgewater could garner more interest, too, but he's probably not as exciting as young gunslingers like Gardner Minshew or Drew Lock, both of whom could rise depending on what their teams do in the draft.

Overall, the 2020 QB rankings are stacked, and there are several exciting rookies (Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love) who could shake things up even more if they're in positions to start in Week 1. Former fantasy studs Cam Newton and Jameis Winston are also still on the free agent market, so you know this list will change plenty of times before the season starts. We'll update it after any big moves, so check back for the latest.
