When in doubt, take an outfielder -- it's the easiest piece of fantasy baseball draft strategy advice to have on your cheat sheet. The position is so deep and so multi-faceted, you can always find someone worth selecting. Undoubtedly, you're going disagree with the placement of several players in our 2019 OF rankings, but the truth is once you get past the top few tiers, who you draft is mainly going to come down to what stats you need a boost in. Rankings don't matter nearly as much as category math. Sure, there are general sleepers to target, but you shouldn't get married to any names.

The big decisions come early at OF in the form of when to draft super sophomores Ronald Acuna Jr. and Juan Soto. It's not unusual to see second-year players decline slightly or plateau in relation to their first season, but most fantasy owners are drooling the potential of these two, so they'll likely be drafted early. If you'd rather have proven veterans like Charlie Blackmon instead of Acuna or George Springer instead of Soto, that's fine, too. All have major upside.

From there, it's all about power vs. power/speed. Big-time sluggers like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Khris Davis are tough to pass on, but so are more balanced players like Starling Marte, Andrew Benintendi, and Tommy Pham.

In the mid-tiers, you'll continue to have your choice of power hitters, 20/20 threats, and even a few pure speedsters. Again, it's all about what you need. There are so many potential breakouts (and busts) that you'll want to grab as many possible.

As you'll see in our OF rankings tiers breakdown, there really isn't that much difference between a lot of these OFs once you get outside the elite options. It comes down to some batted-ball luck and RBI/run-scoring opportunities. There's only so much you can do to control that, so making sure you're building a balanced team and giving yourself options is more important.
