Marseille vs Atletico Madrid: TV channel, live stream, squad news & preview image

Atletico Madrid will clash against Marseille as overwhelming favourites to win the Europa League in Lyon. After being knocked out of the Champions League group stages, Diego Simeone's side have made their way to the final with resolute determination – brushing off the likes of Sporting and Arsenal.

Marseille, who are fourth in Ligue 1, have had a rollercoaster of a ride getting to the final – registering just one away win and five defeats but maintaining an unbeaten record at home.

A Europa League win would be a belated trophy for not just star forward Antoine Griezmann (who has lifted just one Supercopa in his four years at the club) but club veteran Fernando Torres, who is yet to win a major honour with his boyhood club.

Torres has won just the Segunda Division with Atletico, and with the Spaniard announcing that he is to leave the side at the end of the season, a Europa League victory would be the perfect send-off for the 34-year-old.

Match Preview

Fernando Torres Atletico Madrid

Should they lose the Europa League final, Marseille would need to win their final game of the season and hope third-placed Lyon lose if they want to compete in the Champions League next season.

Rudi Garcia's team – especially Payet and Thauvin – will pose a threat to any team, though their defensive frailties and the fact that they have registerd just two clean sheets in the competition will be good news for Atletico.

Top-scorer Griezmann is due a trophy with the club he joined in 2014 and will be looking to add to his four goals scored in the Europa League this season.

After losing to Real Madrid in two Champions League finals in recent years and falling short of expectations when they failed to progress out of their group, a Europa League win may not be what Simeone had in mind – but it is a trophy, and a good wrap-up to their season.

The Argentine coach, however, will be absent from the touchline in Lyon after he was sent off during his side's 1-1 semi-final against Arsenal. Simeone was sent to the stands after he continued to pester referee Clement Turpin following Sime Vrsaljko's red card in the 10th minute.
